If you saw the picture of the “53” looking body on a C5 you may have heard GM was thinking about using it as a “Anniversary Edition” I didn’t dislike the look, but I’m glad GM isn’t going to do it. Here’s the new article.

Magna Steyr’s pitch to develop a retro Corvette {The News, Sept 10} to commemorate the marque’s 50th anniversary in 2003 has been rejected by General Motors president Ron Zarrella. Displayed at the Woodward Dream Cruise, the supplier-developer prototype borrowed styling cues from the original Corvette and applied them to the current C5 platform. GM has it’s own internal plan to commemorate the nameplate’s anniversary, as well as a “halo-car” strategy {involving Corvette}, the SSR and an as-yet-unapproved potential future rear drive coupe.

Thank God the good folks at GM have heads on their shoulders! That design certainly wouldn't have worked.

Me too. But not on a new Vette. A Vette should be a forward thinking application of design and technology.

I hope you get one of those in a kit. I do think that would be real :cool:
