I sold my '67 427 coupe for $2800, in good ole 1970.
I hear thee. Traded my '58 fuel-injected, 4-speed, super rare heavy-duty suspension Corvette in on a '69 GTO back in 1970 - gave me $1,000 bucks for it. I thought it was a good deal at the time (Corvette motor blown; clutch blown; windshield broken - all happened returning from boot camp in SC).
can you say "more hot". i can say first hand!! she is a doll and a pro.
I agree. I was there a few years ago and she is a total hottie. Seems like a real nice girl as well.
It is a fun event. Like an orgy for car people. Lots of hype and BS....and especially drunks.
Some decent deals and some real bad ones. I had the unfortunate job of telling some poor sap that the 427/435 car he had just bought was completely missing its smog system. He had no idea.
Another guy bought an "original" 1969 442 W-30. After he bought it, he went and looked at it on the infield and a few of us Olds guys looked it over. We all noticed that it had "C" heads instead of the proper "D" heads and was most likely a clone. Boy was he pissed.
If there is a messiah for used car salesmen, it is definitely Craig Jackson.
Enjoy watching the auction on TV to see the amazing cars but have often wondered if a few buyers don't get caught up in the hype and spend way more than they can afford.
The most bizarre thing I ever saw was someone who had purchased a car for ~1.8 million and the auctioneer was trying to get to bump the price up to 2 million so he would have the record for that vehicle. Absolutely bizarre.

Remember, bidders get free drinks. This has alot to do with it. Money, ego's, testosterone, and alcohol can be a dangerous mix.
I enjoy watching every minute that I can of the BJ. It is all hype but exciting. Have you noticed that we now have cars described as "reproductions" and "recreations", as well as restorations. Big $$$ is being paid for something less than the real thing. We now have NOS (new old stock) versions of muscle cars being created just for the collector market.
Has anyone ever heard of "Gresham's Law"? Over time it is going to be very difficult to sort out these cars, i.e. which are original and which are "recreations", or in Gresham's terms which are "good money" and which are "bad money".
When Ferrari's were very hot, there were a number of "re-creations" of Ferrari racing cars built, that were hard to distinguish from the originals. These things are still floating about and from time to time fool people. How much is a "re-creation" of a Picasso worth?
Just to update my point above. I looked at the Porsches going on the block at BJ. There are a total of 22 and 8 of those are "re-creations". I don't have the time to check out all the muscle cars but I suspect that the % of "re-creations" for that popular class of cars is much more.
I went last year & enjoyed it immensely. Skipped this year in person - not the cable coverage - but will most probably go next year. The "high" is truly unbelievable.

Went yesterday, typically attend every year. There is so much more to the "auction". Some of the vendors are bringing nicer cars than some that are for sale!
Almost got run over by the "Last 67" when the wife and I took the delivery road as the entrance. We were the only ones walking on the road when it idled by, kind of eerie. Only went for 600K
We were in the auction tent when the CNN Hummer was sold for the Fisher House. Made the hair stand on my arms, .
