As others have said...It's not that hard, it just takes a long time to do it right. I suggest you set aside a couple of days, here's why! It will take you several hours to remove the old skins and put the new skins on for each seat, so I suggest you do one seat at a time. Remove the passenger seat first, take your time, learn what you are doing and when your done, hang it up for the day! Next day, nice and freash, do the drivers seat! Believe me, it's easier to take your time and be freash, so you don't get in a rush.

A digital camera helps too!

I'm bumping this up since it took a bit to find it. Could have sworn someone had thread more recent than 09 about the seat cover installation but I couldn't find it. Thank you so much for the pics and this thread as I am going to be doing my seats soon, new covers are here and ready to go on for switch to 2 tone.

I too am resurrecting this thread, mostly because I couldnt find a more recent one.

I just want to replace the seat back/bolster cover. Do I still need to remove the seat?

There's a great You Tube video that shows the whole process.
Here it is:

I didn't remove the seat to replace my foam and back cover. Though I have the base seats. Can't speak for the sport seats.

Default corvette seats

I just did this in about 3 hours without looking at pictures and taking breaks. Super easy and I am female!

I replaced my 2006 C6 seat covers myself. Pretty easy to change. Took me approx. 2.5 hrs. Be patient and take your time. No issues with airbags or heated seats.

It is not what it takes to remove the seat and the covers. It takes time to put them on like a pro without creases smooth and tight. It is difficult to achieve this with a steamer like the pros use but like someone suggested here , do one at a time, put them on and let them relax over night. It may take you day or two to make them perfect. The job dealer did to replace the drivers bottom under warranty ( stitches coming undone) was awful, they did scrape and mar the new cover, i got them to give me a new one and did it myself. Yet it still did not look as good as my drivers seat which is untouched. Next time i am going to take it to a pro with the right tools and the experience.

I have a 2011 GS (2LT) with the Ebony interior.

Lets say all I wanted to do was replace the driver's side seat bottom only with exactly the same covering that came from the factory.

Can you buy the OEM seat bottom material that basically would replace what originally came on the car?

Since this would have to be something bought from GM, do you think the seat bottom replacement material can be purchased separately? Any idea as to the cost from GM?

I guess the R&R of this would be better done at a car upholstery shop instead of trying to do this at home (by the average guy with no upholstery experience)?

Thanks,

You can get the OEM cover from GM. I would suggest to contact Gene or Patrick at Cultrag Peformance for pricing and availability. Can be done by yourself, or else a trim shop would be next logical choice.

rkj4243 ...

Thanks ... Did a little checking. I see that there are 2 versions of the standard 2011 black GS seats available from GM (1st Design and 2nd Design). Obviously these two seat bottom skins have separate part numbers.

I guess I will need to give the parts guy my VIN number in order to find out if I need the 1st Design or the 2nd Design.

Prices are different too for these 2 variations.

Great write up Gerardo. If I lived a little closer to Brownsville TX I'd have you do mine.

I met you a few years ago SEMA.

If you're doing the bottom cushion, you may also want to consider doing the rebuild kit.

The designs would be the solid 1LT seats vs the "sport" seats which are perforated leather that come on 2lt and up.

Don't know which is which though, I'd think the cheaper one would be the solid leather 1LT leather though.
