If you read the article you will see a retraction was made and that DOT not EPA makes that calculation and to date there is no known change in that rating test.

The pricing has not been released. The Corvette team said about a month as all the pricing structure is in review for approval.

People are still in denial regarding how the Corvette LS2 rates under the new SAE guidelines; but I think the following chart contains some very interesting information. And, no, I don't think GM is playing games by using TrailBlazer HP ratings for comparison with the LS3 Corvette engine. Even if they were, that would only get you 5 more HP (the TrailBlazer's LS2 is rated at 5400 rpm, not 6000 rpm as is the Corvette and as is shown on the chart).

Prior SAE ratings under the old guidelines:

2005-2007 C6 Chevrolet Corvette
400 HP SAE @ 6,000 rpm
400 lb-ft @ 4,400 rpm

2005-2006 Pontiac GTO
400 hp SAE @ 5200 rpm
395 lb-ft @ 4000 rpm

2005-2006 Chevrolet SSR
400 HP SAE @ 6,000 rpm
400 ft-lb @ 4,000 rpm

2006-2007 Chevrolet TrailBlazer SS
395 HP SAE @ 5400 rpm
400 lb-ft @ 4400 rpm

2006-2007 Cadillac CTS-V
400 HP SAE @ 6,000 rpm
395 ft-lb @ 4,400 rpm

2004-2007 Holden Special Vehicles (all V8 models)
297 kW @ 6000 rpm (400 HP is 299 kW)
530 N•m @ 4400 rpm (400 lb-ft is 542 N.m)

My guess is that most people would get this option because of the sound, not because of the performance.

Yeah, speedsportlife.com seems to be all over it . If they didn't know this before they posted the story, one could only assume that it's a site run by teenagers.

It’s official. We’re idiots. Thanks to the efforts of intrepid reader uberR32, who was under no obligation to tell us that we were wrong, we now know that what we asserted in our “stunning expose” on the disconnect between the new EPA standards and the gas guzzler tax, that the downward shift in MPG ratings caused by the new testing procedures would force more cars to be taxed as gas guzzlers, was wrong. Gas guzzler tax ratings are actually calculated using the original CAFE standards from 1975, and as the commenters at Autoblog pointed out, the EPA actually has nothing to do with the assessment of the gas guzzler tax, as the CAFE numbers are calculated by the Department of Transportation. Not only is this what the law on the books say, it was actually on the EPA fuel economy website.

wow, good post WHT. So, this is almost right back to what I posted (and can't seem to find now) two days ago: the ls2, using the same extrapolated drivetrain loss as the typical ls7 Z06 (.891):

350/.891 = 392.82

the chart you posted above (a GM chart at that), shows 395.

hmmm.....looks pretty close to me
:o

adding ls3:

436.00 x .891 = 388.4

I think the LS3 is the real deal, and is going to shock those "in denial" posters on this thread. If you've only got a couple bolt on, na mods like cai and tune....it ain't looking good for the ls2 home team. You're going to need to dip a bit deeper in the wallet and throw headers for sure, possibly a cam at it, then you could rest a little easier knowing you won't get p-owned by a bonestock ls3 equipped car.

Jim Schindler, you will be an excellent bench mark if you do indeed get an ls3 car. Jim can drive very consistently and his 1/4 results in an ls3 car will be very interesting to say the least. Can't wait, Jim. Go get 'em.

The whole "just mod it" attitude is fine for a few people, but the vast majority of car buyer do not want to mod our car - killing the warranty and resale value. We'd prefer a nice new car that if something goes wrong, GM will fix it for free. And we don't have the hassles of modding.

I know there will be those who are going to say they have had no problems, and I'm not saying that is not true. But I have a lot of friends who have modded Corvettes, and I'd say 4 out of 5 have had significant problems as a result of the mods.

Yes, the 36 extra horsepower does mean something to me. I have the money - nobody is going to get hurt by me buying a new car, so that's what I'm going to do!
Note my last car in my signature. Keeping my warranty is important to me, so thus is the 36 extra horsepower.

I guess your response confuses me. It was a color specifically for the 50th anniversary car. Why do you call it a flop. Do you think the 2004 should have been a 50th Anniversary car as well

11,000 is damn near a third of the Corvettes built that year. I guess you think the color was a flop because not every one of them was built that color.

If I need glasses, then so do everyone of my friends (about ten of them are serious Corvette fans). Everyone of them thinks the same thing I do about the color.

The only think floppy here is your keyboard

All I hear is mod your vette if you want more power..I like my 5yr/100,000 mile warranty thank you. Whats with all the opposition to potential 2008 buyers on this forum? I sense a lot more jealousy than most would like to admit.

And to those saying most will never see a track with their vette..thats true, but you can still feel and make use of the extra power on the street when there is no traffic. I'd be lying if I said I never got on my C6 and went over the speed limit on the streets. I would think most people on here feel the same.

If you have been on the forum for any length of time, you would know that thousands of us have bought aftermarket exhausts to make it sound better, with no pretence of improved performance.

I just wish that is only added 5 instead of 6 hp so I could say I have a "435 horse vette"

I herd $1000 option.

The C6's exhaust sounds wimpy. I mean its a high performance sports car..it should sound like one. Ford makes their mustangs sound good, why can't GM. I guess they think if most buyers are 50+ yrs old and that age group would want a subdued quiet exhaust note.

I'm gonna be all over this option..My C6 sounds weak compared to other sports cars.

Personally I've always felt that CAFE is somewhat of a joke, but that's a whole other story.

It appears to be a little on the lighter side, but will need to see it in person. I still like the Monterey Red.

Why the hostility? Isn't that what I said? Even though I don't post that much does not mean that I haven't studied the thousands of posts on exhausts, and listened to a slew of mp3s and exhaust videos.

I'm ordering an 08 and plan on getting the performance exhaust. My neighbor had a Z06 and with the butterflies open I could hear the rumble three houses down (inside) and across the street. I just hope the 2.5" version sounds similar.

lot of talk about whether it's 400, 407 or 412 sae but what someone has to ask GM is where did our 5 hp go? Can't figure out why they'd post a dyno sheet showing 395 instead of 400 in the pre-08 vettes? Has GM even explained this "new" HP rating? I know they want to show the increase for the 08 but what kind of marketing ploy is this to 'devalue" to some extent the 05's - 07's?

Looks like GM owes us the 2 1/2" butterfly 08 style exhaust to give us our 5 hp they cheated us out of.
