GM engineers at the Bash confirmed that the chart compares both engines using the new standards; and this has been posted several times now. We keep going over the same ground ..........over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over again.

I am expecting the Z51 LS3 cars to edge out a C5Z06 on a road course. I don't know much about drag racing, but I'd be surprised if it didn't edge out the Z06 there too.
I'm sure in a few months, people will buy them and test out these theories. I for one can't wait to see for sure.

in all seriousness..i think that the little 5.7 liter will be at the 6.2 liters heels, hanging right in there.

i don't know about the official weight, but i have seen it them weigh in at sub 3100lbs with my own 2 eyes...it is the lightest Corvette GM has produced over the last several years, so i wouldn't be suprised if its 200lbs lighter than the LS3

For the sake of the others here, and not ruining the thread, lets, (and I mean DSOM Z51 too) keep it on topic.
For the record however, let me state that the improvements in the C6 are indeed a welcome sight and will certainly cement the C6's status as being one of the great generations of Corvettes, indeed one of the great sports cars of the new millennium, as well as give us optimism for the C7.
For those of you going into the '08s, godspeed.........and see you at the track.

Chevrolet Formal Option PDF
I don't know if anyone posted this here, other than Rick through his site, but here is the full option PDF (50 page PDF LARGE!):
http://www.patel360.com/forums/2008RPOInfo.pdf
It does clear up a couple things. The performance exhaust is not part of the Z51 package. Also, it appears that the auto-dimming mirror with compass is standard now.

Thats wrong if we go by Rick Conti and Talon90, both of which were at the C6 Bash last weekend and talked directly to GM reps.http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1693965 The optional exhust is included in the Z51 package.

The original 407 HP was reduced to 395 HP under the new testing procedures; a reduction of 12 HP or 0.029%.
Engine 2 (let's call it LS3 for no particular reason) now tested at 436 HP when full parasitic and computer tuning HP adjustments were made as required under the new standards to make it "as installed" in something called the C6. The original 450 HP was reduced to 436 HP under the new testing procedures; a reduction of 14 HP or 0.031%. [/COLOR]

No flames intended, but do you guys think that this new LS3 will be on par with the C5 Z06 405hp car? I would think it should run low 12's stock with 4.0-4.2 0-60 times, like the C5 Z06. And top speed should surely reach 190+. And handling wise, how do you guys think they will stack up against each other? Just curious, I love both cars.
A good race for sure ... and better driver will win in either car.

I'm with you on that one LS1LT1. Don't want anyone tracking me with On Star in my car. Eventually we will be issued fines based on On Star and similar tracking systems. I'm afraid I would have to find a way to disable it.

Hold up.....how do you know that the LS2 and LS3 in that chart were compared using the same SAE test criteria???
And furthermore, do you know if the "2008" LS2 compared in that graph is tuned the same way as the 2007, 2006 and 2005 LS2 used in the Corvette??
If this "2008" LS2 is used in the Chevy SSR, (or whatever truck they are putting LS2 engines into for 2008) how do you think it would look if it were tuned to produce more power than that found in the previous year's Corvette?? Or is the "2008 LS2" engine detuned for use in that truck?? Does this "2008 LS2" have the same cam in it as last year's Vette had in it?
I think all of this will shake out when the cars start to put up actual real world numbers. Its statements like the one immediately above which make me inclined to "back calculate" HP.
If what you say is true, then all those C6 Corvettes that put down 345-355 at the rear wheels, well this new LS3 powered C6 era ought to regularly show us nearly 380 RWHP and along with that nearly routine high 11 second quarter mile times and about a 3-3.5 mph increase in the trap speeds we have seen to date.
When that happens, then I'll tend to believe what you say. But until then.....

And did we ever truly determine what/which 2008 vehicle will still be using the LS2?
SSR is gone, GTO is gone, and the TBSS and CTS-V are (at least temporarily) done after 2007.

My discomfort with these options is both that and the extra costs and (though minimal, I know) extra weight added to the new car.

Also, I just got back from my Chevy dealer. I deal directly with the owner and inventory manager who I have known for a long time. The inventory manager was actually able to access the 2008 ordering system and "enter an order" (in quotations because the order does not get accepted by the plant yet, but it does allow him to enter an order in the system with my name on it).
I'm looking at the printout in front of me. First, under the Z51 package, it shows nothing about the dual mode exhaust. Second, it allowed him to enter the dual mode exhaust (option code NPP) as a free flow option in addition to Z51.

Even a full 2mph gain in trap speed with an 11.99 would have me convinced as well but I'm not so sure we will see those types of gains.

My opinion is based upon the comments made to WHT by the engineers at the bash.
