Default Outside temp gauge reads incorrectly. Any fix?

Usually the gauge reads low, so if it is about 90 degrees in actuality (as it was today), the reading shows only about 78 degrees (as it did today). Other times the gauge seems to read approximately correctly.

I saw no mention of this problem in the C6 FAQ.
Anyone run across this? What is the fix?

BTW this is the first problem or issue of any kind in my 07 coupe, in just over 10K miles.

Mine does that too. I've noticed that it usually fixes itself after driving around for a little while.

I had a similar issue with mine. I took it to the dealer, they replaced the outside temperature sensor, and it's been fine.

It takes awhile to register. I believe the manual explains this. If it doesn't start showing the correct temperature within a few minutes your sensor may need to be replaced.

I have never had a car/truck that worked for the first 10 to 15 minutes from start. Be it parked in my garage or on the street. My Corvette works no differently. After 10 minutes or so my readings match whatever I hear on the local radio, + or - a few degrees for location.

If yours doesn't give a correct reading after ten minutes or so, you do have a problem. Otherwise it's the nature of the beast!

It's probably working correctly. 2007 owner's manual, pages 181 - 182.

There is also a sensor located behind the front
bumper. This sensor reads the outside air
temperature and helps to maintain the temperature
inside the vehicle. Any cover on the front of the
vehicle could give a false reading in the
temperature.
If the outside temperature goes up, the displayed
temperature will not change until:
• The vehicle’s speed is above 12 mph (19 km/h)
for five minutes.
• The vehicle’s speed is above 32 mph (52 km/h)
for two and a half minutes.
181
These delays prevent false readings. If the
temperature goes down, the outside temperature
will be shown when you start the vehicle. If it
has been turned off for less than three hours, the
temperature will be recalled from the previous
vehicle operation.

Whether you have a bra or cover on the front will also affect the reading - mine has a bra on the front, and the temp is always a couple of degrees off because of it. Not that big a deal since there is a temp sensor on the interior to determine the proper function of the a/c.

Interesting info, Jim. But my temp gauge reads the same all day, on the freeway, etc. There's also no bra or other cover on the bumper temp sensor. Past cars I've had with temp sensors, from a Taurus SHO to an Acura, gave reliable readings. I assume that there's a defective sensor in my Vette and will have a dealer look at it.

Thanks for all the input, guys

This is what I'll be doing with mine.

This is just how mine works. My motorcycle has an outside temp sensor, and in the manual it states that you need to be traveling above 10 MPH to get a good reading.

I think I had a problem with it after washing and getting water up on the sensor once too. So I am a little more careful when spraying water near the sensor now.

There is a way to get the temp sensor to react without the delay. I read it in the forum. I'll be damned if I can remember exactly how I did it but it involved holding two buttons down simultaneously. Like the fan up and something else. It worked and if someone knows how, post it and I'll write it in the manual for the future.

It's the power of suggestion.

Rather than let you think that it's a hot, sweaty 90 degrees, your car is trying to make you feel as if it's a relaxing, balmy 78 degrees.

Wow, that would be neat, and avoid a trip to the dealer!

While moving through the digital readouts on the dash , I ran across a screen that read "outside temp sensor calibrate". I was only able to get to it one time and cannot for the life of me remember how to get back to it. My outside temp reading is about 6 degrees high.

To the OP - sounds like your outside sensor is faulty (as others have mentioned) - one more thing, the outside air temp reading is used to help set the A/C or heater settings - so get it fixed and your car will be more comfortable to drive.

Hmmm.....I'll poke thru the digital menus tomorrow while driving 3.5 hours to Thunderhill raceway for a day at the track. Thanks for the tip.

I had this problem of the outside temperature reading a couple of degree's off. When I took the car into the dealer for the first oil change I mentioned it to the service manager. They hooked-up the car's computer to check the gauge. They told me they did not find anything wrong. However, since that time my temperature has read correctly. Seems like just resetting the car's computer fixed the problem.

Hope this helps...
