Default ZO6 Convertible

Has anyone heard if the ZO6 will be available in a convertible in 03 or 04 model year?

As Dave Hill has stated, the Z06 will only be offered as a Hardtop as it is the Performance Enthusiast Vehicle.

Marketing...... plus, you normally don't see convertibles competing in GTS open road racing. :)

if they gave the ZO-6 to the coupe and conv they would sell no FRCs that they are in the bag for to the manufactures of the tops. they now sell 20/25 % FRCs and before they sold hardly any.

I would guess we'll see the 385 hp LS6/M12 in the Coupes and Verts as an option next year. Probably a $5K hit or so. The ZO6's output would go to 425HP, and it would hopefully have the tranny cooler and an upgraded oil cooler standard. $52K retail.

And you wanna know something? There's no reason for it not to happen. i too use to believe that "ZO6 is a Performance Enthusiast FRC/Car only" Crap. That is until I saw the '03 500-500-500 Viper as a FULL BLOWN VERT!!! The perf enthusiasts can keep their FRC if they want - us consumers just want the VERT as an OPTIONNNNN!!!

Oh, I tried to like it. I've test driven it sooooo many times. But there's nothing like a a vert! Its very simple - no Z06 Vert? Then no Z06. They can keep it. I know many feel this way and many have said no like I did. Nothing looks like a vert. I think GM made a mistake but it wouldn't be the first one.

Well, thats ok. Hopefully ARE will have his TT out in Nov and I'll drop it in my vert and will blow the doors off a Z06 as I pass it - with MY TOP DOWN!!!.

I saw a 2001 Z06 vert at Carlisle this year. Rumor was it cost $12k to have the top chopped. Nice.....

As good as John is, I wouldn't pay the $12,500 (Plus shipping) to cut up a Z06. Think of it this way. You pay $50K for the Z06, then $12,500 to cut it up, $1400 for shipping. You've just spent $64,000 ($66k when you include TAX) for a Z06 vert, a vert without the manufacturer warranty. Even if I were able to sell my '99 for $38K, I'm still in the hole $28K! No Thanks. Spending $14K (including shipping) to have ARE's TT (with a 2 yr warranty) in my existing vert, which only has 8K miles on it, IMHO is more practical.

Strange, how they advertised the C5 as a high performance machine long before the Z06 came out. Stranger still how they touted it as being built as a convertible first, giving the ragtop just as much grip in the turns as the coupe. And then they refuse to put a higher output engine in this car? Screw that. I like the Z06, I think it's lines are the best of the bunch. But I don't like the fixed roof. Couldn't they at least have put a sunroof in it? And I don't like their attitude about the LS6 engine. I'll just buy a coupe or convertible and modify the engine aftermarket. Probably cheaper that way anyway.

Definitely cheaper. Even a $12K TT from ARE would still be cheaper when you look at what you can get for your current vette on a trade (or even a resale) for a Z06. Cheaper, about 100 more horses and a pretty good warranty from what I hear. Also from someone who stands behind his work. We'll cross our fingers.

Default No Z06 convertible

"Why doesn't GM make a Z06 convertible?"

Why doesn't Porsche make a 911 Turbo Cabriolet? Or a 911 GT2 Cabriolet?

If GM built a Z06 convertible, it would be $60,000. And then we'd hear endless complaints about "such poor quality for a $60,000 car" and "they won't let me on the track without defacing my Z06 vert with a roll bar -- when is GM going to get off their ### and address this issue with their so-called 'performance' car?"

Besides, the press would have a field day with the price tag. "Pros: Sinful speed; out-of-this-world handling for a ragtop. Cons: Chevy interior, NASA pricetag. Verdict: The Corvette everyone wants, at a price few will pay."

GM doesn't do it because it's not worth the headache.

GM has its reasons, but quality issues wouldn't be one because the only difference FRC and the vert is the top itself. And I don't think sticker is an issue here, especially as far as the press is concerened. Look at the LEXUS SC Vert, (in only its first year), the CLK Retractible, the M5, and the latest AUDI - all have crossed well passed the $60K range. Also, just take a look at the unveiling of the '03 VIPER - a 500-500-500 Full blown convertible! I don't see the press having field days with that $85K beast. I would certainly pay $60K for a Z06 vert before I'd pay the $85K for the viper (Dont forget to add the $3500 gas guzzler tax).
