GM High-Performance Magazine
Jan 2002 Issue of GM HP has and artical about the Z06 with a small artical about the new C6 here is the part about he C6....
"Will Corvette Ever Be Tops???...
We've Heard unofficially that the C6 will bow in 2003 (as a 2004 model) with more power than ever. To accomplish this without incurring a gas-guzzler tax, GM Powertrain is rumored to be ironing out details on either a supercharged motor or a new displacement-on-demand V8. This would allow much higher horsepower while meeting fuel economy and general emission standards. it could also spell the end of the dreaded 1-4 skip-shift!- JH"

Lots of rumors of the power on demand feature. Let's just hope it works better than the first time.

Re: GM High-Performance Magazine (Vette80)
Jason-GM first tried the displacement on demand w/ some mid eighties Cadillacs-with horrible results. Nowadays, Caddy has the thing worked out and they might put it in their 750 HP car (if they make it). I wouldn't want it it a Vette though, I want all the power, all the time :smash:

You didn't even mention anything about the Viper-Z06 drag shootout? At leastthe writers seemed pretty honest about the results.
Take it easy.

The infamous V8-6-4 of Cadillac in the early eighties would have about as much in common with the displacement on demand engine as a 63 fuelie 327 does with an LS1. Technology moves on, and I embrace it!
As for having all the power, all the time....when you punch it, I'm sure all 8 cylinders will be online with no discernible lag. And why use all 8 cylinders when you only need a few dozen horses while cruising at 80 mph?
400+ HP and 30+ mpg on the hwy sounds fantastic to me!
Go test drive a new V12 Mercedes S-class for an idea of how transparent this system has the potential to be!

Caddy 864 engines...shut down cylinders to save fuel...I had read that the bugs from before (technology had not caught up to application) are worked out. (technology has caught up) :chevy

My source says NO d.o.d. on the next Corvette. Not at this time at least.

The old cadalliac technology of 8-6-4 failed simply because the processing power wasnt good enough to work smoothly and properly. Most disabled it.
Today processing power is obviously not an issue for automotive applications.
I see DOD in the truck line for a least a year before using it in the Corvette.

I though the Corvette was the test bed of new technology. All new stuff showed up in it first, didn't it??

Re: GM High-Performance Magazine (rocknrod)
As it turns out, GM High-Tech Performance may not have the best intel or, at least, might suffer (because of the inevitible delay in publishing a print magazine) because the info is a bit dated. And, heck, I ought to know because I wrote the article elsewhere in that issue from which the editors lifted their info about the supercharged engine and the "Displacement on Demand" system.
At this point, it appears the blower motor is out (ok--call my prediction "in-error") and a two-tiered offering of atmo motors, a six-liter and a 6.4, are now the engines of choice for the C6 which, BTW, comes in 2005.
Both these "Gen IV" engines will have "DIBC" (dual in-block cams), adjustable valve timing, three valves per cylinder, direct injection and the Displacement on Demand system. My guess is the six-oh will come in at 375-400hp and the six-four at 425-435, perhaps even 450.
Of course, then there's the nuclear-powered, Viper killer called the Corvette ZR06-1 SS. But.....that's a story for another thread I'll post next April 1st.
Let's wait the three years and see what happens. If, I'm wrong you can spam me with hatemail.
