What is the best brand of gas to use?
Hi, I just bought my 1st Corvette, an 08, LT3, A6 coupe. I normally use Sunoco 91 octane in all my high performance cars. Just yesterday I heard about Top Tier Brands for the 1st time. Sunoco was at the bottom of the list. So now I don't know what brand I should put in my Vette? What brand and octane is the best to use in a stock 08 for the best performance.

So I've been duped by the marketing by Amoco (now BP) for years!?!? I even go out of my way to get it sometimes...at least I guess I used to.

You want to use a good detergent gasoline to keep the inside of your engine clean. Chevron and Mobil have been known for that for years, although Mobil is not on the Top Tier list.

note it is sunoco canada not sunoco so I don't think sunoco usa is on the list. don't sweat it just had a bottle of chevron techron one in a while. With the cost of gas I use whatever is cheaper and the car runs well although I do use techtron. Using 94 octane in a car designed for 91 does nothing usefull btw

I try to switch between the Top Tier stations with Shell, Texaco, Phillips 66, and Chevron being "on my way". Only 93 premium since it improves the gas mileage enough to be within a penny or two per gallon real cost. Shell seems to be winning the price wars so that is what I get most but I'll pay an extra 2-3 cents to change every 5 tanks or so just to get different additives to clean the engine even better. At 11K miles it still idles so smooth you can barely feel it running. Put your foot down and you know it's running.

I dunno. I've put hundreds of thousands of miles on my last three F-body cars, using Price Club, then Costco gas, and occasionally Thrifty gas. . . Or whatever I can find in Barstow on my way to/from Vegas. Absolutely no problems related to gas, ignition, valves, etc. In fact, the cars were all runners! I still have my LS-1 Camaro, and it runs just fine. I don't believe I've ever used "top tier" gas. On infrequent occasion, I recall running a pint of Techron into the tank, but that was just because I got a good buy on it. Didn't affect performance at all.
So, I'm thinking this "top tier gas" issue is pretty much marketing hype to keep prices up. Having stated that, I have absolutely no problem with anybody buying "top tier" gas exclusively.
After all, I use Zaino products exclusively.

...Top Tier eh? Yup...Marketting gimmick dreamed up by Quicktrip. Seems that guys here, for the most part, have bought into the Top Tier hype. If your brand is not on the list it's probably because they didn't send them MONEY. You can draw your own conclusions from the screen shot below (grabbed years ago before they stripped any affiliation from the TT site). Also, Notice who's brand is at the top of the list......
