Default vert owners trunk lid question

I picked up my 08 vert in early sept, I cannot believe how much pressure it takes to close the trunk lid, it seems I should know some type of martial art to drive my hand down to close the lid, if you just try and close it like I did on my C5 the sides don't latch, and you have to pop the lid and do it again, does anyone else notice this ? it is kind of like forcing the lid down with the trunk stuffed full even when it is empty the trunk lid pops open the same way , what do you think

I have an 06 vert, and my lid closes very easily...sounds like yours has a problem perhaps.

I have an '06 vert and have no problem closing the trunk. It sounds like there may be a problem with your car.

I have no issues with closing mine. Takes very little force.

My 07 is not difficult to close. Sounds like the two rubber bumpers may be adjusted out too far, have you tried to run them in a bit? When closing mine I lower it then give a small push and down it goes.

I am not sure what you mean about the sides latching.

Hope this helps.

yes, mine reqs some effort. and unless really banged shut, it doesn't.

Like, I'll have to go look for/at those rubber bumpers and see how they move in. thanks for the tip!!!

This is an easy fix for the dealer. I had the same issue.

What do you mean the sides don't latch? The only latch is in the center.

But the corners are not down and the trunk is latched

I have exactly the same issue -- I'm going to take a look at the body-side latch mechanism to move it up a bit (moving the bumpers will result in the outer edges not being flush with the rear fenders/fascia). I did a similar latch adjustment on the hood latches of my C5, and the hood now latches everytime on both sides when dropped from only about a foot.

FWIW, I'm also planning on having a ~4" 1/2-moon-shaped piece of 3M clear film placed over the latch when I get the rest of the car done.

The rubber bumpers are definitely set too high if the corners are not flush with the fenders with the deck lid latched. The only purpose for the bumpers is to set the proper height of the deck lid at the corners. If the corners are perfectly level with the fenders when the deck lid is finally latched, then your center latch needs adjustment.

They twist in and out like fat screws, pretty easy.

Default Be gentle.

Try lowering the hatch easy to the point of just touching resistance. Then apply gentle pressure until the mechanism graps. Continue gentle pressure until pull down starts, then release and let close itself. See also the manual.

I talked to Bowling Green about this when the car was new. They said to check the allignment and clearance of the hatch, but it turned out to be ok.

Different mechanisms; I think you're referring to a coupe. The roadster/'vert is completely manual, just like trunklids of yesteryear. There is no electro-mechanical pull-down mechanism.
