I'm replying for 3 reasons:
1. This thread is 10 yrs old and I'm wondering if BEAR is still alive and if he's changed his tune (and if he's a "he").
2. My opinion: variety is the spice of life. I specifically bought a GS b/c that's what i wanted and i would not have bought a vette at all if there were only 1 version or if there were many versions, mine was the best, and so was everyone elses. I like seeing z06s and bases and verts and all the other variants of the c5 and c7 and etc. If everyone blew their wallet on the best version of the vette... i'd find something else to own.
3. well ****, i can't remember what number 3 was. i blame the universe

"MOUNTINBEAR"
- It's spelled like the OP likes to mount bears. One can only hope he's talking about female bears, although the way things are today one can never be sure. And a female bear with a cub probably won't take kindly to being mounted by anything.
- He's a millennial and doesn't know how to spell "Mountain."

I will say for me, I don't want a ton of options and fluff and puff on my vehicles, my base 1lt car has more than enough fancy items on it and I have no use for heated seats, HUD, a fancy radio, nav etc.
I am in the process of buying a new daily driver and it is absolutely dreadful with all the electronic gizmos on new vehicles and that they seem to be engineered so most people can't work on them

However, the more complex any mechanism is, the more things there are to go wrong.
I agree about new vehicles; I have a '17 truck. My very elderly neighbors have a ('13-'14?) Subaru, which I have driven for them several times in summer and winter. She had no clue how to work the heating/AC system and neither did I. They are ridiculously and needlessly complicated on most vehicles.
However, on the C6, once you get the climate control settings figured out, all you have to do is set the temperature number and leave it alone. My truck does not have CC but it does have probably 8 different settings to blow the warm/cold air.
FWIW, no vehicles I've had since they've gotten this complicated actually WORK any better at distributing air than the old cable-operated "Heat" or "Defrost" jobbies that you could balance anywhere in between -- and you didn't have to pore over the friggin' Owner's Manual to figure out how to work them either.
I don't think they're necessarily designed so we can't work on them, it's just the natural progression of technology -- for better or worse.

Anybody notice anything amiss with the screen name of the OP? I'm going to assume the OP is a male:

An earlier poster was pretty dead on. The Mercedes CLS500 that I had a few years ago taught me that the more bells and whistles a car has, the more abundant and expensive the repairs will be later.
I have no desire for a HUD.
I have no desire for the GM Nav system.
I don't need a leather covered dash that peels, bubbles and falls off.

Melting Slicks
I see this thread goes back to '07.
Now, I just wonder how many folks are happy after 11 years with the Nav system? Bose? HUD? And upkeep with Chevy-spec "hi tech" options? Z51 ride? Z06 reliability?
I can play my phone with my base '08 radio with the Aux input. I have nav, music and phone on the base radio.
Sometimes, less is more. Especially years later.
