A quick Google Search for "RPO WD1" resulted in this in referance to C5 production:

RPO Codes to look for are:
RPO WDO: WDO is the PROCESSING OPTION CODE for a new C5 BUILT FOR THE NEXT MODEL YEAR FOR TESTING and EVALUATION purposes. A WDO C5 is built during the current model year run of C5's, but is a FUTURE Model Year Vehicle. This Option Code is known at the factory as a "CONTAINMENT VEHICLE" CODE. Which is the "IDENTIFICATION" of the START OF A NEW PLATFORM (i.e. NEW MODEL YEAR C5).

RPO WD1: WD1 is the IDENTIFICATION CODE FOR A FACTORY PILOT VEHICLE, for the Next Model Year. Example: If the factory was building 2002's and a "RPO WDO" & "RPO WD1" was going to be built, it would be a 2003 Model and would have a 2003 VIN Plate attached to it. Of course this would be a EARLY MODEL 2003 C5, with a built date in the middle of the 1999 Production time line, and a JOB# for the current 2003 C5 Model Production.

RPO WD2: WD2 is the IDENTIFICATION CODE FOR A FACTORY PROTOTYPE, C5 Vehicle. All the information would be the same as above, EXCEPT this would be a 2004 C5. Usually all C5 Vehicles after this are called ALPHA Vehicles And BETA Vehicles meaning 3 and 4 model years away.

It means that your car was a very early production car initially built to test production processes and build quality. It would have been built in mid-2004 during the changeover to C6 production at BG, but it is considered a 2005 model year car. The car passed all inspections, and it was then released for sale. GM builds about 20-30 cars a year for these purposes (that's why the VIN number totals never quite add up to total production), and some are released for sale to the general public. You have one of those cars. There isn't anything special about your particular car, just that it was used for initial testing and validation, that's all.

That's cool.
Where did you get the car?
Since it's a pilot car did they include some wings in the glove box?

I've got a similar situation, although I will have to check the option list for a WD code. I have a 2005, VIN production # 132, a Precision Red Convertible, one of only 30 made, or so I'm told.

Default 2004 C6 pilot car

This car was owned by GM until 10-30-2007. vin ends in 4U455100013. Build date is 04/07/2004. Looks from the records that they used it for early testing and driving. Lots of parts were changed in late 2004 & early 2005. Car only had 1,400 miles from 6/7/06 to 10/30/07. Bought car with 20,000 miles on it.

Car now has 20,000 miles on it. On 6/07/2006 it only had 18,700 miles on it. It uses no oil, runs like a r*** ape. Hard to hold traction anywhere in 1st or 2nd gear. Problem has been ran hard, Price was right for a 20,000 mile C6. Super clean loaded car.

Can't ask much more than that.
I think you got a good find. Enjoy it, man.

Default I have one too

I have serial number 96. Mine was owned/borrowed by a GM engineer. His ID was still on the OnStar. I have over 35 K miles on it with no issues. GM Rep told me that the ones run hard, or track tested by the press are not sold to the public. The ones they sell were usually given to manufacturing engineers and execs for feedback on rattles and infantile failures. Mine had 8900 miles when I bought it.
The problem is I can't find that "WD" code anywhere in my paperwork. I have the build sheet and the window sticker (from the museum). The buildsheet and window sticker clearly state "CAR PILOT".
I don't know the build date, but the fenderwells have stickers on them with 4/13 printed on them, it looks like a vendor label. There are also some signatures in the wheel well with 4/30 written in white grease pen. I assumed it was somewhere close to that date (if it is a date at all).
The only unique thing I have noticed is the carpet behind the seats is black, where others are cashmere.
