I just recently order a 2008 Corvette convertible, my dealer told me it would take till the end of January or early Feburary, before it would be built. Are they protecting themselves, and I'll get a happy surprise or are they accurate, on the delivery time.

delivery time, yes. build time, maybe. best time would be about 6 weeks from day you order. remember: this time of year, there's Holiday Shutdown, aka Christmas and New Years.

very soon, like this coming week you should be able to get a 6 digit/alphanumeric "order number" probably beginning with the letter M*. from then on, your dealer can track thru his/her computer the build status of your car. and call you and tell you.

see status codes on sticky at top of this forum under faq.

oh and almost-welcome. aww heck...WELCOME!

*actually if you already ordered more than a week ago, IF your dealer has an allocation for a Corvette, you should already have an order number. do you?

5-6 week lead time from the week the dealer has his allocation.

It may have to do with there quota, this time of year it takes a little longer because the plant shuts for a week in dec+jan. Ask for the order number from the day they place the order with the factory it will be traceable. There will be a preliminary number which should consist of 6 letters, once excepted the numbers will be 3400 to 5000
good luck

6 to 8 weeks is typical. Since the plant is going to be down for Christmas from Dec. 24 through Jan. 1, last of Jan. to first of Feb. sounds about right. However, that also means he's got an allocation in the next week or two. If he doesn't, he may be misleading you.

Wouldn't hurt to ask him when his next allocation for a vette is and is that your order?

They're giving you their best guess based on when they anticipate getting an allocation from GM. At this point it's only a guess. Once your dealer gets an allocation and your order gets "picked up", your dealer will be advised of your car's TPW (Targeted Production Week). Your TPW will likely be 3 or 4 weeks after your order gets picked up; figure on your car being delivered to your dealer a week or two after it's built.

Interpreting that part literally, it sounds like the dealer is anticipating a future allocation but doesn't actually have one now. If they had an allocation now, the statement should be "take till the end of January or early February for delivery". If it were me, I would try to clear that up. Ask them if they have an allocation now or are they expecting one in the near future? If they are on the straight and narrow they should tell you. Good luck. And welcome!!

Thank you all for your help. I ordered it November 20th. The dealer didn't submit the order until the next week. I am doing the Museum delivery, since I live less than an hour from it. My wife told me I'm worse than our 6 year old. I need to be more patient. I've wanted a Corvette for 27 years, and soon I'm getting one.

I ordered my vette Sept 11th. My dealer told me ahead of time that he didn't have an immediate allocation, and I said okay, since I would be able to make a larger down payment in January, I'd be willing to wait. It actually got ordered Nov 15th and my tpw is/was 12-1. I think there is a good chance that mine will be here before Christmas. My salesman didn't seem to want to voluntarily call me with order date, tpw, etc. so if you really want to know, then you may need to call and ask for the dude that actually places the orders, because a lot of salespeople don't have the time (ha ha) to check on that sort of thing for you.

Museum delivery typically takes 1-2 weeks longer than dealer delivery. The museum makes extra checks for quality, so I've heard.

Hmmm...not necessarily, Jim. If you figure that it typically takes 1 - 2 weeks for a Corvette to get to a dealer (from the time it comes off the line) and that the museum likes to schedule delivery 10 - 14 days after production, I'm guessing that the wait time is typically about the same either way.

Regardless of weekends and holidays, it all depends on dealer allocation! Placed my order July 25th. TPW set at 10/01. Coupe delivered to dealer on 10/10/2007. Close to 10 weeks (2 1/2 months) total. But, this was a small town dealer with only 2 allocations per year and did not have one available when I placed my order. I wow'd the dealership manager and district manager with my knowledge about allocations (learned on this forum) and they finally came through. It was worth the wait!! Now winter is here and car is put away.

My Black on Black 2008 1LT with NPP exhaust and Z51 was ordered October 29 2007 and arrived at the showroom Nov 29 2007. That's exactly 31 days. So it can be 4 weeks flat.
