For the Black Wheel lovers out there....Plasti-Dip convert
I'm still on the fence on whether to black out my Vette's ZR1 rims so I decided to experiment on my 10 year old truck first.
They were in horrible shape and I had been pricing rims, but I was looking at a minimum $1000 investment. On a 10yr old truck with 130k miles
So I decided to try this Plast-Dip stuff that is all the rage...and I gotta say I'm sold! $35 and a few evenings of scrapping and sanding and my wheels look new and modern.
So for those that are thinking of going black I say give this stuff a try...you can always just peel it off and go back to Chrome.
Check out these before and after pic's.
I'm still on the fence if I want to do this to my Vette but hey...worked out good on the old hunting truck!

Very nice looking.
My son found a vendor online that sells a metallic grey plasti dip. Looks great on his motorcycle.

Plastidip has so many colors and special effects that it is a great source of economical tools to change the look of almost anything.
I just tried some of their "metalizer over gun metal gray with a tup of "glossifier", turned out well.
If in doubt go to YouTube for instructional videos, lots to see.
I will say it is not quite as easy to take it off as you think though
I did the emblem on our Camry back when we got it in matte black

I did the wheels on my 95 Impala SS that had minor pitting and the Plasti Dip filled in almost all of it. I also put on a top coat of regular metallis paint over the Plasti Dip to add more color. The paint is about 9 months old w/5k mi and still looks great !

Did you use the Glossifer or just the straight black? I order a complete kit for doing my wheels on my C6, but I have not gotten the nerve to do it yet. I ordered the actual wheel paint in Anthracite Gray and the glossifer.

Yeah, peeling that stuff off when the time comes is a mother bear! It does not come off in one super duper sun burn type skin chunk. I did some motorcycle parts once and it took me hours to remove. I then went to permanant paint. But I guess that kinda defeats the whole purpose of the original dip.

For best results during removal, apply at least 4 coats of dip. The more coats the easier it'll be to remove when it's time. I have done whole cars and have removed entire panels in one piece. 4 or more of the base coat, regardless of glossifier or metal flakes, etc. Enjoy!
