Using the 1/4 mile challenge thread is not a very good indicator on whether LS3 is quicker than LS2 as everyone comes in with times from different regions and different setups. It's nice to see that there are a handful of people competiting for the fastest times.
Drag Experience:
As pitiful my times were on the 1/4 mile time was, I was at least a good 0.2 secs ahead of LS2's with my 08.
Road Course:
I recently went to streets of willow in California, the LS3's that ran on the roadcourse were a good second or 2 ahead of the LS2 on a tight road course. Of course, driver ability plays a huge role, but all the drivers had some sort of experience driving. On the straights, the LS3 had an advantage.
It's a noticable advantage the LS3s have compared stock LS2s, but you have to really be on your game to be ahead of the other driver. Any mistake will put you back a good step for both drag racing and road courses (assuming they are stock).
Records:
Whether the LS3 breaks showroom stock records, I have my doubts, not because of the engine, just the allure for more HP is just too great then playing stock. Most people that have switched from an LS2 to LS3 is not going to spend time trying to break stock records. New people to fourms will see dyno charts on the performance section and will get excited easily.
OK. First, I'm going to have to wait until the nice weather comes to the Buffalo area, maybe June
Second, I don't know where a 1/4 mile drag strip is in this area.
I have no experience drag racing. I am willing to learn. As soon as the weather changes I do plan on practicing launching the car and getting to know my Vette better.
Now the real question. The OP questions the power of the LS3 vs the LS2.
Are you talking stock head to head?
Not trying to stir the pot just saying I'm game

Reason: spelling
My LS3 mn6 is quicker then my LS2 a6, but the two different trannys throw a roadblock at a direct comparison. But , I also got some seat time in an LS3 a6 with the 2.73 and it was also slightly quicker then my LS2 a6. So, I have to give the nod to the LS3. Whether or not owners of them are savagely pounding them on the strip to climb up the ''LIST'' or not is perhaps the reason they have not taken over the same list.
I would never put down the LS2, I love mine and plan to keep it long after the lease runs out on the LS3.
But putting aside the drag strip for a moment, if an LS2 and an LS3 , otherwise stick and stick, base and base, or Z51 and Z51, OR two A6'S , one LS2 and one LS3 , were to run from a roll, the LS3 , taking away driver error or shortcomings would emerge ahead.
I am fixing to find out what the actual truth is to THE LS2 VS. LS3 MYTH
Again, I'm not slamming the LS3 or anyone that owns a 2008. I'm not slamming anyone that doesn't race their car. I do, however, wish more Corvette owners would track their cars (be it on a drag strip or a road course). It's a wonderful sport and we have wonderful cars to use.
Eloquently said.

You could always go to Toronto Motorsports Park, which is actually nowhere near Toronto, it's in a town called Cayuga near Hamilton. So from Buffalo you're only about an hour away.
I'll be toping the stock C6 list next time I am at the track. With my own tune I ran an 11.85, and had a time where I was going to run an 11.7 but there was an oil down and I lost control for a little. My bet is I pull a 12.0 on the stock tune, possibly an 11.9. I'll be bringing the beef shortly
I gotta say this: This LS2 vs LS3 thing is really kinda funny. I should hope that GM would keep improving over previous models. The LS3 DOES have more HP (30-36 WOW!!!), it's not big, but it's an improvement. They're both Corvettes but this competition thing between the two is a little bit much. If you really want better performance, there are plenty of Z06s out there. Gotta love the C6.

What's funny is that all of these threads are started by owners of LS2's, but then the LS3 owners get accused of looking down our noses at the LS2's. We aren't the ones starting these debates!
I think you will see the LS3 shine after the bolt-ons and tune. On the list barely a year into production it has 7 of the top 10 on the bolt-on category.
I think he is right. I beleive the Torque Management is extremely invasive in the LS3 more so than the LS2. Once that is removed there is more of a disparity between the 2. I have an LS2 and I think I`m 13 on that list... I was 7th or 8th I think before the LS3`s came out...

and with all the other variables, different drivers, tracks, dynos... none of these comparisons are really too meaningful..
The extra HP of the LS3 in stock form, better flowing heads, etc... add up and equal better performance...
but it's fun reading everyone's claims and excuses...

I disagree. Thats someone's goofy idea that just really isn't thought out. Even if it was the culprit, think about it, torque management limits the cars to the same power under 3500 rpms... so the cars are capable of the same everything but then above 3500 the LS3 just shines more.
Now the goofy part is the best launch will come between 3000-4000 rpms. So you will either barely touch TM, or you won't touch it at all. What I'm saying is for the manual only.
I think you just aren't getting a lot of stock LS3s to the track yet. A lot of people bought the LS2 and don't see the LS3 as worth the extra ching. So you've got the guys that take their cars to the track in LS2s, gas prices suddenly make V8's a bad thing (even though ours get good gas milage), and the guys that are buying LS3s are either souping them up right away or keeping them garage kept.
I haven't seen one other LS3 at the track. But I've seen quite a few LS2s, LS6s, LS1s, and even some LS7s.
Most races are won by great drivers. Put Dennis50NJ,JBSBownc5,or Quicktime in a LS2 bone stock, then a LS3 bone stock car drive-em down the track, same day same conditions. Then you should have a real good comparision. It would be nice to see this happen with all of the resorces of the forum. That should put all the talk to rest....
I'll be happy to post in there in a couple of months. My brother-in-law ordered a Challenger SRT8 and he is so convinced that nothing can beat a Hemi that he challenged me to a race at Virginia Motorsports Park once he gets delivery! He is even offering a wager! Believe me I can't wait
