what is the corvette stereotype?

Safety Car
I hang out on a Mustang forum (used to own one) and they all think Corvette owners are 60 years old, drive their car like an old lady, and spend more time cleaning it than driving it.I'm 40, put 12k on my Z06 in 8 months of driving, and will be more than happy to do "spirited" driving. I clean it when I get a chance - not after every ride down the road.

Well,
I am very happy to soon to be into my second mid life crisis car. The first one was a 2005 Mustang GT with a Saleen S/C. It was a lot of fun, but I let the wife talk me into an automatic and was never fully happy with it. ( It did look and sound great though... )
So far my gray hair, slightly over weight mid life crisis has been going great. In fact, it has been so much fun that I hope to contine it for the rest of my life. I finally have enough money to get just about any car I like. I did a custom retro looking Mustang, Now a Vette. Who knows what might be next???
Wife is fine with it as long as I do not get a hot young seat cover to go with my mid life crisis car. In fact I got her a mid life crisis car last year. She wanted a little ocean blue turbo Bug. ( Yea I know, but that is what she wanted ) Her custom plate says WATRBUG... Oh yea, she also decided that she wanted take 2008 off ( she is so spoiled.. )
So far, our mid life crisis has seen us skiing in Aspen, Winterpark, Breckenridge, Snomass, Parks City, Big Sky, etc... We have also been SCUBA diving in the Bahamas, Mexico, and even spend a week on a live aboard dive boat off the Great Barrier reef in Australia. We have seen Yellowstone in the winter.
Yep.... A 40 somthing mid life crisis is great.... The new Vette should certianly be a great addition to the fun....
A co-worker found out I had ordered the Vette and ask if I was worried that people would think I was going through my mid life crisis. I said not really, because I AM GOING THROUGH MY MID LIFE CRISIS and I am loving it....

One of my friends said all vette drivers are a-holes (before I bought the vette). I would assume that is the stereotype.
All I know is I used to have a 350Z (lemoned), and that forum was filled with a bunch of people who would rather scream at your or insult you than anything else. Not everybody, but a lot of people.
Here, I think the people are more friendly to say the least.

Most people think we'll all over the age of 50, we live in North Jersey or come from there, and wear satin jogging suits and gold chains 24 hours a day.
As far as our cars go, we never drive them and we just sit in the garage and clean them then stare at them until nap time. When we do drive them, we stay in town and do everything possible to not break 29 miles an hour because something may fall off the car if we hit 30 mph.
Now of course, those are only partly true and it's our duty as Corvette owners to disspell those myths whenever possible. Get out there and drive folks! (but wear some jeans and leave the jogging suit at home...)

Some of my favorite responses to the stereotypical most-often-asked-at-a-stoplight questions (sorry, neither of them are mine, but I like 'em anyway):
1.) "Hey, are you trying to compensate for a small *****?"
- "Your wife has never complained".
2.) "Having a mid-life crisis?"
- "Well, I'm 53, so yeah, 106 sounds about right. Thanks!"

Indeed, list of victims, numerous M3's,M5's,M6's. I have never been a fan of one. Don't know why, I guess they just don't have the C6 thrill.. Every time I get in my C6, since purchased new, on Dec 28, 2004, I smile at how amazing this wonder of GM really is..
