I have never, ever heard that a Corvette, Porche or any other high end automobile is for "older guys" from anyone other than a movie script or several times here at CF. Where do people get this crap from?
The stats don't agree with you, bottom line is "older" guys have more money than younger guys.
Even this un-scientific poll tells us why there is no 2 inch thick racing seat option.
Whew!!! When I saw that dirty depend in your trunk at the bash, I was worried. I thought that you may have had an accident on the way.
Now that I know it was Radar's, I understand. We all know that he wears them because of the "crunch crunch" sound that comes from his pants when he walks.
I'm 63 and have owned 3 Vettes. Got my first one at age 50. It's not that it's an old person's car, but that now at this time in our lives, we can afford getting toys like this. When at a younger age, while raising a family, we had other more important things to spend money on. Kids are not cheap. College educations, homes, other toys like boats, cars(still had nice autos) and the likes. Now at this age, when we buy things like Vettes or any type of vehicle, most of our generation pays cash. These are our toys and we worked all our lives to enjoy what we have today. We have 125 members in our Corvette club. The average age is about 57, but if you ask anyone of us, when we're in our Vettes, we still feel like we're 21. We enjoy life.
+1--I'll be 58 next month. I considered a Corvette when I was 44, but practicality led me to buy a Z28 vert--it had a back seat. And I agree about no middle-age crisis; I've always had hot cars & the vette is just another in a line of 'em.
When I was in my 20's the cars to have were the muscle cars, so I was fortunate enough to buy a '66 GTO and pay for it from my part time job while attending college. Now that I'm in my 60's the car to have (for me and many others) is the Corvette. Kids are educated and gone from home so I am blessed again in being able to afford America's favorite sports car, the Corvette!!
I will have one in a few years and I'm 27. But my house will be paid for before I purchase a vette!
My wife makes enough to pay for the utilites/food/gas/insurance and I plan on putting 5k a month on my new house until it's paid off. So I plan on getting a 2009 or 10.
I'm 52 and on my 3rd Vette ! Life's TOO short ! I've paid my dues (30 YEARS in the utility business) and I intend to RETIRE in the next 5 years and enjoy life !!!
In this blessed, free country you pretty much can do what ever the heck you want. If you've traveled around the world a bit, you know that's somewhat rare. We have so many miles of roads to drive, drive, drive...what's not to like. Take a look at a map of Outer Begonia or where ever...not too many roads, just lots of goat paths. So age is not the issue...driving a heck of a car is. I hit 61 this year soon and can't wait to drive my daily driver tomorrow morning and many more mornings. I'm drivin' & smilin' until they pry my cold, dead hands from my steering wheel. What a car! What a country!
