Car Wash or Hand Washing
My Wife and I have been talking which is better hand washing or going to a car wash. She thinks going to a car wash is being more green and that the newer car washes have gotten better about paint damage. I on the other hand believe hand washing is better even if I do sent chemical down sewer. Are Car Washes bad for the paint finish?

hand wash
I never bring mine to a car wash.
SWIRL MARKS!!!!!
I wash with a microfiber sponge mit, dry it off with a california water squeege and then use a microfiber towel to get the rest.
The corvette is small and doesnt take too much time.
Take pride in it, wash it yourself.

You drive a "plastic" car that is made from petroleum products and runs on gas! You through the "green thing" out the window when you bought it.
The "no touch" car washes only get the dirt wet. Nothing beats hand washing to remove all the crude.
Tell your wife to stop using the washing machine if she wants to be "green", but you are going to wash your Vette at home and use all the damn soap you want.
There was a post on here the other day about a large car wash chain actually using acid in their fluids. How is that being green?

Mark,
Welcome to the Forum and congrats on the new ride! Not so sure how "Green" these Car Wash places are...they use some pretty nasty chemicals there also. The way I see it, you're already doing your part for the environment by driving an almost 30 mpg Corvette. Unless you either find a GREAT hand wash place that deals strictly with high-end automobiles, or you're in need of an emergency wash on a road trip, you're much better off washing your Vette yourself. There are some really smart folks that hang out in the Car Care Section of this Forum. My personal favorite is Bugman. Here's his website...just follow it to his detailing page: http://www.bugmanweb.com/c6/c6index.html
Good Luck!

There was a post here a few days ago and it had a link to a news story about how many cars wash places use acid i their wash mix. Don't sound green to me.

I don't think I am alone here but I actually enjoy washing and some detail work at home in the driveway taking your time and doing it right.
The Vette will never see a car wash....
I have gone to a DIY spray car wash to hose off the heaviest of mud from a Jeep, but always finish it at home.

My 07 is my first vette that I purchased new. I have spent 1 year washing it myself, learing which products that I like (I now use all Zaino products) and perfecting my technique. Now, 1 year later, there is no doubt in my mind that NOBODY out there in any carwash is going to give the same caring service to my car that I give it when I wash and dry it myself.
Unless you personally know a professional and pay him the big bucks, an everyday 'carwash' is simply inconceivable.....for me.
Now go out and buy yourself the Zaino starter kit and immediately apologize to your car!

We either wash at home or go to a hand car wash that takes great pains at doing the job right.
