2008 Rear end ratio
The refugee from OT asks a question......Will someone post the standard and optional (If available) rear gear ratios for the 2008(Not Z-06) Corvette.....Thanks

3.42 for ALL manual trannies, no optional rear axle ratio. 2.56 for automatics unless you order the optional 2.73 ratio or get the Z51 option, which gets you the 2.73 ratio as part of the Z51 package.

I will be buying a C 6 in the future so I'm interested in the ratios available now. They are much taller than they used to be. Good for gas milage on the road. I know the C6 has more HP than my C5 does.
(350) but is the standard ratio sluggish like it used to be, or does the having 6 speeds in the auto trans allow the ratios in the transmission allow the first gears to be lower, thus having the best of both worlds: Lower in the first gears and higher overall top ratio for great cruising mileage?
Any opinions from C6 owners with the 6 speed auto trans?

Anyone have an opinion o those ratios? At the moment I have a 04 C5. When I was looking to buy one i drove a couple different ones. One with the then standard 2:73 and one with the optional 3:15 "performance" ratio. I found the 2:73 to be a little slugguish in town so I bought the one with the 3:15.

Your A4 has a first gear ratio of 3.06, that combined with your 3.15 axle gives an overall first gear of 9.64.
The A6 has a first gear ratio of 4.03, that combined with a 2.73 (optional performance axle) gives an overall first gear of 11.00. Even the standard 2.56 axle with the A6 gives an overall first gear of 10.32.
Both versions of the A6 have a first gear mechanical advantage over the performance ratio A4.

C6 of Year Finalist (performance mods) 2019
If I had recognized I had a choice when I ordered mine, I'd gone for the 2.73 gear. At $4 a gallon, the fuel cost would be about $200 a year more than the 2.56, but I would easily have had more than $200 worth of enjoyment from the extra performance.

I have seen several charts that show ratios for Z-51 with only the first 4 gears lower than standard 6-speed's and 5th and 6th are the same Over Drive ratio's. What gives?

Our A-6 and 2.73 rear axle runs great. The 1998 Indy Pace Car had the 3.15 rear axle and the 2008 performs so much better. No Compairson even though the HP was very similar 415 for the 1998 and 436 for the 2008.

Don't know where you got your info., but I'd say it's wrong.

This Forum is great! If you have a question, just post it up and your answer will follow. I have learned so much about my car on this Forum. We should rename it: CORVETTE UNIVERSITY
By the way. Does the C6 even need the performance ratio? With 6 speeds, Manual or auto you get some really low ratios in the lower gears. It must really have some good acceleration off the line.
Heck, even my "Old" C5 with the A4 will get your attention when you nail it. I do see a C6 in my future though.
