ok, I hate the nav system in my car so much that I went today and priced out a complete new system
this is the system I'm looking at
Pioneer AVIC-F900BT In-Dash Navigation AV Receiver with DVD Playback
it has XM,nav,bluetooth, DVD
any thoughts on this system< Has anyone had this installed?
thanks and sorry if this has been covered before. I did check and this is the most current unit on the market
Installed complete $1,600.00
If so, when you plot a route, as you travel the route the next street to turn at, direction, and distance bar will show up in the nav if you're in the HUD's Street Mode.

Do you mean the NAV info will show up in the HUD on the windshield while the HUD is in the Street mode??
yes I do
I see what you mean
I didn't know that
I'm not sure how important that is to me
so the kenwood uses the garmin nav system.....that's cool
thanks
That's a good question. Our Acadia guy said that the aftermarket Nav wouldn't play nice with the HUD and I was originally thinking of doing the same thing with the Vette. I'm used to the direction and distance bar showing up on the HUD and it would be a tough feature to lose.

Yep, it's an awesome feature.
Also when in Street Mode, when you switch radio stations (works with XM, I'm guessing with regular radio as well) it'll show the station in the HUD as well.
I'm confused. You say 'It sounds like a great feature but the problem is I won't use the nav system in the car so it really won't make a difference to me'. Then why spend $1600.00 to replace what you have? Maybe you have extra cash that needs to go somewhere but with all the features memtioned here whay would you think of replacing it. What about resale value. I can't believe you will ever get your money back on a third party system. This makes your car not original from the factory. But if you like it then go for it.

I just don't understand why folks will pay 1200 plus for the factory nav then want to replace it. I also have a Garmin portable in my Explorer and my stock C6 unit works pretty much the same. I don't think any of these systems are perfect, but since I can get lost in a box, I like them all. I really like the HUD integration with the stock system. You can get a lot of great Corvette goodies with that Pioneer money--eddie
Mods, thanks for getting those smilies back on my screen
it's very simple, I find the original system to be not user friendly at all. I have 2 other cars that have built in nav systems that are very easy to use and ALWAYS find the destination. I really don't think that having the original system from GM is going to make one bit of difference in the resale value of the car. this is an 05 not a 67 where original is everything. all I'm saying is that even through having it come up on HUD seems great, having a nav system that works is more important.

I disagree, I have a Garmin and I have the Vette Nav. There is no comparison as to ease of operation. The Garmin is so easy and intuitive that I never used the manual. For the Vette Nav, my wife is always going for the manual to do anything beyond simple point-to-point directions.
As much as I dislike the Vette Nav, I wouldn't spend the money to change it, I'm just sorry I got it in the first place.

I got $300 for my 6 disc factory changer...You can probably fetch $700 for the factory NAV unit. That would have made my cost for the upgrade only $500 instead of $900 since I did the installation myself. In his case his true cost is $1600-700 = $900....assuming he sells his factory unit.
Then what's the point of paying all that money for an aftermarket nav?
Seamless iPod integration, DVD Playback, Bluetooth w/phonebook download (unless you have an '09), HD Radio, XM & Sirius, rear camera capabilities, better headunit equals better sound quality, external relay controls for controlling your NPP, TV tuner, larger screen etc....
I was just wondering if anyone had the pioneer unit, if it was a fair price and if it was as user friendly. I also thought all the other options that came with it was pretty awesome. BTW- I didn't pay $1200 for the nav when I bought it because I bought my car used and got a pretty good deal.
