Default 07 base Auto - Trans slippage?

Last 2 times I took it out I believe I experienced trans slip.

Same spot of road I give about 70-80% throttle in second, the back will squat maybe even walk just slightly and then I get engine RPM climbing but I’m not accelerating the way it normally does. No tc or active handling messages were noticed and I let out pretty quick. Highway and stop and go driving the car behaves completely normal.

I’m due for a fluid service so I’m going to do that and see what happens. I’m 99,9xx miles and I think it’s the original fluid.

I bought the car with 89k last year from my brother who bought it new and never abused it.

it was 100% stock till I got it and added bi-mode mufflers and a custom tune from diablew. Car has never skipped a beat other than these 2 occasions and it’s been tuned for the last 8000 miles. Build date is March of 07 so it is more prone to the TSB on clutch seals.

anyone have an opinion on other measures I can take to diagnose this issue myself?

weather is getting cold and traction isn’t what it was but this felt different than stability control.

Thanks for any thoughts!

my 05 was just rebuilt at 100k miles. I think I was lucky to get this much life out of it as I dont ever really beat on it .

Sounds like it's just time for a rebuild-sorry. I paid about $2400 with a better stall. Im very happy with it.

thanks, I appreciate you sharing your bill for repair! I had ball-parked $2k for a rebuild depending on what is needed. But I don’t know how hard these are to work on fortunately I have a lift and I’m comfortable removing the trans myself. May save me a few bucks... you wouldnt happen to be in southern OH? Always good to find a shop that’s treated folks right if you happen to be in the area :-)

I would contact the local domestic based speed shop or a local area trans shop like i did. the local trans shop was a few hundred cheaper and they are always working on race cars so i wasnt too worried...i would be worried if all they did was trans for like for the daily driver civic or so.

The trans removal is very very very time consuming and involved...the whole rear comes out...lots of bolts to turn...if your talented go for it.....

upgrade your stall while your in there

I'm no expert but I would replace the fluid in the trans and rear end before going for a full rebuild. Specially, if neither has ever been done.

Changing the oil and filter will at least remove that from the equation.

Good luck

You mentioned a custom tune. Did this start after the tune? Also do you drive in the normal (drive) position or in the sport mode? I have a tune because of long tubes, hi-flow cat and CAI. I drive in the sport mode 99%of the ti.e and if I am using g the paddles mi e will jump sideways on the first to second shift if I am on the gas. Mine is an 07 also but just a little over 30k miles a d the trans shifts are fine.

agreed, it isn’t going to hurt anything for sure and I’ll be doing it this weekend if not sooner :-) I’m not usually lucky enough that a fluid change resolves problems lol but seems like it helps often enough I shouldn’t rule it out.

started after the tune and I don’t think it’s tune related other than because I make more power and have firmer shifts the problem presented itself sooner than it may have otherwise. I almost always drive in normal mode. I don’t like the paddles too many years of driving with right paddle up left paddle down I just can’t retrain my brain lol

The paddle wiring can be easily changed to do what you want them to do. I only use the finger paddle portion, and have the right paddle as upshift, and the left paddle for downshifting. Takes a few minutes to change 2 wires in the right paddle to make it as you want it to be.

I have instructions if you ever want to do it.

Good Luck with your others issues first though.

I’d love instructions to do that, I’ll send you my email in PM.

When u drop the pan to change fluid, only about half of the fluid is removed. If you notice a positive difference, I’d drive maybe another 500 miles and do new fluid again. Could just be your filter is very dirty and restricting flow.

I finally got everything and did my fluid change today. I bought a 12v fluid pump for filling the trans. IMO it’s worth the $30 not to fight with the plastic pump staying threaded to the qt. I also bought gallon size jugs as 2 gallons was cheaper than 7qts.

no leaks and no slippage on the initial test drive so fingers crossed that I’m not going to need to overhaul the trans just yet.
