Price Increase Announced On Corvettes!
#41
It's quite simple actually....
So let me get this straight................They can't sell off the 2008's they have on the lots...........their giving huge discounts...........they are closing down for a week in Ocotber and then laying off workers to manufacture less cars/day.....and now they increase the base cost by $1500.00!!!!!!!!!! What am I missing here??????????????? Who's in charge here????? I hoping for a very logical explanation............I am at a loss.

Interesting move on GM's part now that the US Economy is in turmoil and the stock market tanks 777 points.

Very strange move considering the state of the economy and car sales.

Good Gals Drive It Hard
This really gets me! The nerve of GM raising prices at a time when the economy is rough. GM may just price the Corvette to high and drive potential buyers to other makes.
At the very least, GM should justify the price increase with better quality (ie. interior, plastics, and electronics).
In 16 months, I'll consider another Vette, but will take a serious look at the competition. While the Vette is an attractive and fun car, it certainly lacks in areas and may not be worth the $$.

Are you sure about that? I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but if the car wasn't ordered and preferenced BEFORE today's price increase then it's not price protected. Even if you ordered the car last Friday, the car could not be preferenced until Wednesday which would be too late.
The below is what I got from another thread here and discussed with my dealer, the way we both read it we feel as long as the order is actually in the system by 09/30 the dealer will get the lower price at invoicing? The order went in today and was accepted at the old pricing from what we can tell, I'm not sure to be honest but either way I guess I'll have a new C6!
Chevrolet will announce revised 2009 model year Suggested Retail prices effective with vehicles produced on or after September 29, 2008. The revised Suggested Retail prices will affect the Aveo, Cobalt, Colorado, Corvette, HHR, Impala, Malibu, Trailblazer, Equinox, Avalanche, Tahoe, Silverado, Suburban and Express. Dealer invoice amounts will increase accordingly. Dealer discounts remain unchanged.
Dealer price schedules will be available in GM DealerWorld under Sales &/Or F&I Tabs effective September 29, 2008. Reference administrative message #VSF20040006 (dated February 26, 2004) for more information regarding this web site.
Sold order price protection eligibility dates are dictated by the customer and dealer order dates as follows:
-Customer order date must be prior to the date of the price increase.
-GM systems order date (date dealer enters in GM system) must be no more than one work day after the date of the price increase.
These units will be invoiced at prices in effect at the date of production; however, the dealer open account will automatically be credited for the price increase once the unit has been delivered.
Generally, fleet orders are invoice price protected (i.e., bid center FBC order types, VQ orders). All other fleet orders will be price protected according to the bona fide sold retail price protection policy above. Refer to the price protection effective date on the invoice.
Please file this administrative message with your 2009 model year pricing information.
GM Autobook will be updated with the revised vehicle pricing in the next data release, data version 143.0, that you will receive in your automated update by Friday,October 3rd, 2008.
Order Workbench will reflect the revised vehicle pricing at 8:00am on Thursday, October 2, 2008.

Might as well make the increase $10,000. After today's meltdown in the market, I don't think too many people are really going to care how much a Corvette costs.
Wonder what's really behind the increase and the timing, given the poor state of the economy? Are we seeing the effects of IAM (oops, I mean UAW) contracted salary increases or just GM figuring they can get away with it because Corvettes are strong enough in sales, buyers can "subsidize" the losses GM is having to take to move trucks and SUVs?
Whatever, it's not going to bother me; I don't plan to sell my '07 yet and further price increases may even delay my plans to buy another.
Wonder how much of the increase is reflected in the invoice. I presume the figures posted are all reflected in MSRP.

Facts - 31% of home owners own their home outright. Credit Unions have not lost one cent on sub prime home loans as they only did 20% down and payment within affordability of the borrower. 80 % or retirees are financially secure.
These individuals are a big share of the corvette market. So be happy as I am with my four week old coupe acquired with $7k off and 0% GMAC financing. And best off all my SS check will go up next Jan.
Hmmm. That ZR1 is looking better all the time.

These are the same types of people who we are now trying to bail out for 700 Billion. Yes this type of mentality prevails when you are not in touch with the average American.

"This year's $25 billion is just a down payment. The automakers now plan to ask the government for another $25 billion in loans next year. It's just spare change, after all."

" "We're very pleased Congress has chosen to act at this critical time," said Greg Martin, director of communications for General Motors Corp's Washington office." Imagine that.

Why complain about it?
No seriously, I look at it this way--
If you are in the market right now, despite the increase you can still get a better deal on an 09 or leftover 08 than buyers could get on an 08 or leftover 07 this time last year. MSRP is hardly what folks are paying right now (except ZR1).
For those of us who already own (got my 08 in Feb), the price increase will help (slightly) stem the depreciation on ours.
Not to mention the $1500 increase on the 09 verts actually puts the MSRP only about $100 over the 08 verts MSRP (w/ 3LT). Why GM priced the 09 verts $1400 below the 08s in the first place is simply beyond reason.
