Default Z51 vs Z06 vs ZR1 CAR and DRIVER

December Issue Front Page Corvette Shoot-Out

0-60 0-100 1/4

Z51 4.1 9.0 12.4/117
Z06 3.6 8.3 11.7/124
ZR1 3.4 7.6 11.5/128

According to Car & Driver the loser among these three is the Z06, namely that it's really difficult to drive hard on a track.

Gotta be honest here, I'm really getting sick and tired of every magazine testing every sports car on the race track to decide the winner. The % of these cars that will ever be tracked is miniscule. I traded a LS3 Z51 for my Z06 three months ago, and I've run the cars very hard on all types of roads. I can damn sure tell you that I don't think I came out a loser.

On the other hand, I am the first to admit that the LS3 Z51 is the best bang for the buck, and everyone should be happy to own whichever one they have.

The performance of the Z06 is amazing for the $$, not that the Z51 package with the LS3 is not, but 11.7 in the 1/4 on those terrible tires vs the ZR1 using superior rubber is really awesome

It is interesting that the reported times are more or less what GM said they were....

Did you know that every time C and D puts Corvettes (any Corvette, much less THREE!!) on the cover, the magaizines sell better than when they have any other car on the cover?? Just a thought here as to why they do that so often!!!

It's not just the numbers.. There are many intangible's that just aren't realized from a quick track run. It takes time behind the wheel to fully understand the differences between these models. You can't just jump in for a quick ride and make these kind of judgements. These reviewers have to fill columns to push out the next issue.. they don't focus long enough to understand the differences.

No way one can lose buying a Z06 its one of the finest "sports cars" in the world. And a true supercar.

One also cannot lose purchasing any of the other's listed either.

C6 Corvette is a great buy. No such thing as a bad one.

This is the first Vette for you, right??

Don't worry about your Z06 buddies. They already know, and know well, that they own one of the best sports cars in the world, one of the Legendary Corvettes, 427 cubic inches of pure American muscle, with achievements nothing short of downright phenomenal.

And no amount of hating from you will ever change that. Just so you know, my LS2 based C6 buddy.

I was only trying to help. I can only take so much Z06 bashing.

Now in regards to my Vette History. If you would have taken a moment to get to know me vs ASSuming my history, you might have seen my profile clearly states I owned a C5 - 2001 Mag Red Convertible. LS1.

I know these articles are very upsetting to some owners... Please try to take them lightly.

Yea but a better bang for the buck is your FJR or any modern sportbike/sporttourer for that matter. Sorry for the hijack. Couldnt resist.

Good point. Some like to remind me that a Pontiac Solistice is a better bang for the buck then Corvette.

I havent 'tested' either theory. Motorcyle or Pontiac Convertible.

I own a z51 LS3. Ive never driven the zr1, but I have driven a z51 and z06 on the track. There was no doubt to my mind that the z06 was more comfortable to drive at the limit than the z51....and felt more stable and felt MUCH faster doing it.
That said, I often disagree with C&D

Testing sports cars on a track is OK, but using that as the sole criterion is just stupid.

Sports cars are meant for the road. Race cars are meant for the track. A car that is better on the track is not necessarily (in fact, likely not) a better sports car.
