You gotta see this Vette get taken to the cleaners by an electric car...the wave of the future, I guess.

You can really have some fun in a electric car! Awesome, but not surprised. Still the issue is range and the Vette still wins that at least!

So... Are electric cars really "cleaner"?

That is pretty impressive, had to be a shocker for the Vette driver.

That is really cool. Neat to see an electric car doing a burnout.

Wow! I want one.

I'd like to know how many miles he does get on one charge? A Volt will get 40 miles per charge which is less than 80% of what Americans drive each day. This would make for a fun second car.

impressive, but not surprising.. basically unlimited torque. what he was doing was adjusting the torque up in the computer with each run after seeing that the batteries had enough range. thats what electric motors can do; torque.

and no, electric cars are filthy. all those chevy volt and toyota prius batteries are going to end up somewhere. thats real pollution.

Yeah - I was wondering when this would be posted. We'll be seeing more and more of this. Watch this become a sky-rocketing enthusiast sport. Expert "Don Gartlitts of Electric racing" types will continue to emerge. Other things like adding electric categories to NHRA.

Wave of the future; but I still love the Vette.

No so.

"The hybrid battery packs are designed to last for the lifetime of the vehicle, somewhere between 150,000 and 200,000 miles, probably a whole lot longer. The warranty covers the batteries for between eight and ten years, depending on the manufacturer."

"Hybrids use NiMH batteries, not the environmentally problematic rechargeable nickel cadmium. "Nickel metal hydride batteries are benign. They can be fully recycled," says Ron Cogan, editor of the Green Car Journal. Toyota and Honda say that they will recycle dead batteries and that disposal will pose no toxic hazards. Toyota puts a phone number on each battery, and they pay a $200 "bounty" for each battery to help ensure that it will be properly recycled.

Awhile ago my dad was telling me about the electric cars that will be showing up and how fast they'll be. He showed me the "Telsa" car around when it was first announced and I thought it was pretty cool. His bosses son will be receiving the second Tesla off the production line (they're the richest people in Canada lol no joke). It'll be sad to see the muscle cars, as we know them, eventually fade with time. Pretty cool stuff though!

True, but I recall from my HO Slot Car racing days the tricks used to "hop them up".

Things like:

Swap out the OEM with silver or gold plated Pick-Up Shoes, balanced armatures, stronger motor magnets, and high performance tires were all tricks of the trade and greatly enhanced a slot cars performance. Weight reduction was also a major issue racers employed.

So while some things will change, other items will replace them. Think of the name brands that support the internal combustion engine, and how they could adapt to the new world of electric powered cars?

It boggles the mind to think better performing cars could be on the horizon.

Good point. Though one day people may pay to download exhaust tones.

What you state is mostly true but have you ever seen a nickel mine?

In terms of total pollution, if you charge your batteries with power from a nuclear power plant, wind, or solar, electrics win over gasoline. If you recharge from natural gas fired power plants like we have in the western U.S. then electrics also win. But if you recharge from coal fired power generation as used in the eastern U.S. then gasoline is less polluting.
