Ole Smoke Armor All Corvette giveaway
I just caught the Corvette giveaway on Stacy David's Gear's show on Speed and wondered who won it. Well I found this car listed on the Dupont Registry for sale for those of you interested in what happened on the contest. The STS twin turbo kit sells for 8K and they did a few other minor items to this corvette, but nothing to justify the price the winner thinks it is worth. But for this is the best mod for value that I have seen for the corvette. For about 12k ( assuming 4k for the install, which might be a bit high ), you have a performance corvette that will match the ZR1 for a fraction of the money.

I would have liked to see some suspension upgrades and perhaps a brake upgrade in the rear.
I found it hard to believe that with a turbo, front brake kit, and new wheels and hood that you could match the performance of a ZR1. I think the ZR1 deserves more respect than that.

I just watched this too and thought it was a pretty cool mod, but $125K asking is ridiculous IMO. Think you can figure out what it's worth by adding up the cost of the mods and their installation. I think the flame/smoke paint job looks horrible and detracts from the value. I'm also not a fan of the hood.

Sorry, I never cared for that car's paint or wheels tho I am sure it is very fun to drive and own. I'd have liked to see them do something to the interior. The idea that it is anywhere in the ballpark with a ZR1 cost-wise is a joke. Maybe some collector is interested but any collector worth his salt isn't going to give $70k for it.

I don't have any faith in Stacy David the host of Gearz. He said on a couple occasions that installing a supercharger on a Corvette C6 will not affect the factory warranty. Can Stacy David really be that ignorant?
I seriously disagree with your contention that "...you have a performance corvette that will match the ZR1 for a fraction of the money." Slapping a supercharger on a stock, cast-piston C6 engine is a long, long way from a ZR1. Furthermore, the ZR1 is much more than just a FI application engine.

I watched the segment also and am not a fan of the appearance mods. It seemed to me the wheel centers actually had a C5 logo on them, further discrediting the whole package...

I wasn't crazy about the cosmetic stuff also, maybe the hood. Obviously your powertrain warranty would be gone. I think the host is a real idiot. The STS system sees pretty impressive though. It is obvious they didn't do their research since they bought the $1195 NPP option only to toss them across the floor.

Nothing done to the car voids its warranty, and it is serviceable at any local Chevrolet dealership
That is the quote of the night.

Just a couple or other things I noticed were:
1) The car had stock slotted rotors; perhaps it had Z51.
2) No HUD, so this means either a 1lt or 2lt package only.
Just another example of more money than brains.

I just watched this again today. The more I see this car the less I like it. With the "Smoke" out of the gills looks like someone just drove down a street that has been freshly oiled. And whats up with the C-5 logo on the C-6 Z0-6 repro wheels? The bolt on turbo is cool but installed with a dyno tunei it would be about what? $7K to $8K ? this car is a non-Z-51 with base suspention. It may go fast in a straight line but careful when turning corners with 550 HP. Stacy is no Corvette guy, they should have contacted real Corvette guys here on the forum to tell them how to correctly mod the car. they could have done sooo much better.

Love it or hate it, looks like a lot of curious folks on the forums tuned in.
I have a hard time believing the warranty is still good as well.
ZR1 or not, I would not mind getting a chance to try it out. It was definitely different hearing a turbo(or 2) whine coming from a Corvette.

I think Gearz is a good show. He shows a lot of practical ways to restore parts. Yeah...I'm not a big fan of the Smoke Vette, but it was cool to see a job like this one on his show.

I saw this re-run yesterday as well. The STS TT, Stainless Brakes, new wheels an SLP hood and same graphics. I don't love the graphics, but that's it. For a reasonable price it is a nice car, but there is really nothing special about it and it can be reproduced readily and probably for a lot less money than this probably half.

That is one of the fugliest custom paint jobs I've ever seen.
If I bought it, I'd have to get it resprayed.

Team Owner
I watched it again yesterday.Cool to watch any show with a c6 in it.I see the owners thinking on this.77 grand gets you a 1 of 1 corvette with all those mods that was built on a tv show and it has Tony Stewart's name with it.Makes sense.Doesn't make it a 77,000 dollar car to me,but I get where the owner is coming from.I'd get a Z FOR THAT MONEY,and not orange
