Any young drivers (20-25) regret getting a vette?

I'm 23... I haven't looked back.
I was saving for it since I was 16/17 years old. It was worth it. DEFINITELY.
Since I have a honda for a DD, it's not a big of a deal for me to pay gas and maintenance on my vette isn't as frequent since it's my weekend/warm weather car.

I'm 67, bought my first sports car, an MG TF 1500, at 19. My first Porsche at 23, and my current Corvette ('07) for my 65th birthday. In between I've had lots of other nice cars. I've been in 58 countries, all 50 states, and hunted on four continents. So, my advice: "Budget the luxuries first."
People, even older people, forget they can become incapacitated or die.
If you want the car and can afford it buy it. Life's too short not to live it.

I still find it odd that so many people talk about putting their vette away for the winter. I lived most of my life in the snowbelt and vettes were my daily drivers.....I found them no worse than any other rear wheel drive car in snow....in fact, I had one BMW in there and that was way worse than the vette in snow....

Go for it... just turned 26 and bought an '09 coupe. It's the only car I've owned that makes me just keep looking at it over and over... and the performance is amazing.
I've got an Audi A4 for the winter, so it feels like the best of both worlds.
Just make sure that you budget for insurance and all that good stuff on the 2nd car though... I'm paying $70/mo for the Audi and the vettes only a little bit more since it's not recorded as my full time car.
Also, there are some pretty decent deals in the housing market now, so if you're looking to buy, don't blow your wad on a vette when it could be a nice down payment on a house. I bought one this summer and got a 4.875% rate and uncle sam cut me a check for $8,000 (and now I'll also get to deduct my car's sales tax... go reinvestment act, lol)

My first car was a '66 Convertible that I got at 22. I sold it a little over a year later for 50% more than I paid because it really wasn't a practical only-car at that age - a great second car though!! My only regret is that I got my dream car so early in life. I have had lots of REALLY nice cars since but none have given me that thrill that the '66 did.
I now (almost 30 years later) have a C6 and a C4. I love the C6 but I also see it as a depreciating asset, kind of gnaws at me, financial security (even though I have it) is much more important to me at this point. I bought the C4 convertible for nearly the same amount of state tax I paid on the C6 - it really can't depreciate!
Sorry for the long story, point is that I lived it, and hindsight is 20/20. Go get your Vette, but buy used, let someone else take that hit. The "I bought it brand new" attitude is short-lived, the "I got it cheap and still have money in the bank" mantra will leave you sleeping better at night.

I was 22 when I got my vette. The key is to know how much you can afford. Think 5 years ahead. Do you want to be a homeowner? See what you can safely afford with you income and your goals in mind. I sold the vette and moved the viper after a couple years, and dont regret either car. But of course, I can comfortably afford both of them with my goals in mind and obtainable.

Interesting the responses you got... all are valid and should be considered... I got my 86 vette when I was 36... I now have an 06 convertable and 08 coupe... loved all three...
I had a friend in the late 60's that was able to get a 67 327 350hp which he had reworked to 425hp... that was my first vette experience and I was determined to get one since then. I loved the 86 and the new C6's are just fantastic. My 31 year old son just bought a Boxster and a 335i a few months ago... he didn't get the vette I'm convinced because of peer pressure where he lives / works in Orange County CA... nice cars, not vettes...
Yes they are mostly driven by older drivers, because that is who can afford them for the most part. Performance wise... I had my 08 on Infineon Raceway (Sears Point) on December 7th... my first time on the track with anything but Corvettes... the only car that passed me that day was a Z06 and that only once. I passed a new GTR, R8, Cayenne, Ferrari 360, too many Carreras to count (mine is completely stock)... The Corvette is a world class car that doesn't cost world class prices to keep running. It looks great, rides great and gets 28mpg... you can't go wrong with it and you are supporting the US auto industry and economy, well kind of since the government took it over.

Just bought a 2000 FRC a month or so ago at 20 years old. Previous car was a bolt-on RSX Type-S so the Vette is a bit of an upgrade lol. But in all honesty i don't see myself regretting the purchase in any way. Go for it.

I'm 22 now, and I've been saving up for one. My goal is to buy a low mileage used C6 by the time I'm 25. As long as it's an '08 or newer, I'll be happy.
