What car is fastest 1965-1969 427 block with 400-435HP or C6's with a LS2 400HP?

As the above. The '60s Big block and for that matter just about all the "muscle" cars of the era were almost all. low 13s, 112 mph+ cars. Tires and suspensions just couldn't get the power down. If you were able to mnake some modifications then you would start to break parts. A select few could run in the 12s, but were limited production cars such as the 427 Cobra. Some race only "legal street" cars such as the Ford Thunderbolt, Z-11 Chevs were faster, but a new C-6 with 430 Hp
can easily run low 12s at 115+ mph right off the showroom floor. Now if you're talking "fun factor" well that's a different story.

I remember that article! It was one of the very first issues of Road & Track I ever bought, at the age of 16! That time period was the beginning of me falling in love with the Corvette! 5 years after that I got my first one (a used 84 model)

I had a 67 427/435. Owned it for 20 years. Wasn't real sad to let it go. Looked great, sounded great, but wasn't all that fast. Turned in the mid 13's when I ran it a couple times at the track. I own a 05 LS2 6 speed and that car is by far quicker. It would beat that 67 in a heart beat. Now put that up agaist by C5 and it would be toast. Well with 640 at the crank the C5's not exactly stock but as a DD I still like the C6.

I owned a new ’69 427/390 and now have an LS2 C6. There is no question that the C6 accelerates faster, has a higher top end, stops quicker, and handles better. Sure wish I still had the ’69.

Got it TiVo'd
There was a show on Speed a few years ago that tested all the fast old muscle cars. Most were in the 14s with 2-3 hitting high 13s. These were stock cars with period correct tires, suspension, etc. Old muscle cars look and sound mean but performance wise they don't hold a candle to today's cars. Like mentioned, even a V6 Honda will give them trouble. Hey what do you expect from 40+ years of technological advancement? I'd still give just about anything for a '70 LS6 Chevelle SS. I don't care what car can beat it.

Many of those car mags back then tested factory ringers that weren't exactly stock, including tires. I seem to remember a 65 Pontiac 421 catalina which did 0-60 mph in IIRC, 3.6 seconds.

I saw a road test in Motor Trend two or three years ago that compared a "67 427/435 HP coupe to an '06 MN-6 bone stock car. The C6 put preformed the 427 in all tests. Technology is amazing.
Ever look at the tire width on a C-2 ?

'66 was the first year for the 427 in a Corvette and it was initially rated at 450hp but then later reduced to a "safer" 425.
The quickest 1/4 mile ET that I've read was 12.8 and seems plausible with some better than stock rear rubber.
Mine had correct, original-sized tires, and that combined with the stock suspension made control difficult, albeit very exciting at WOT.
My 40 years newer C6 is definitely faster but I miss the sounds of the side exhaust and the smell of high octane leaded.

I owned a 66 427 way back then. Although it has been some 40+ years I can remember the raw power the car had but my LS3 just seems to keep pulling and it sure turns alot better. I wouldn't want a 66 for a daily driver but oh to live for the weekends and some crisp clear weather!

So why do people so much money for the old muscle cars?I had a 69 vert a couple of years ago and realized that i would have to stand on the brakes to stop the cars.I sold it a week later!Buy new,and don't pay those ridiculous inflated prices for that tired iron that you see on Barret-Jackson!
