Nicely done!

Make note on your first page, the scale buttons can be held down to rapidly zoom in and out. At first I was just rapidly pressing the button not realizing holding the button down was much faster.

Also, it took me a while to realize that the map position can be moved using the touch sensitive screen.

One thing has me and the service manager stumped:

If I press POI, then gas stations for example, I would like to see a list of the closest stations. The list button stays grayed out until you type in a name. Why is typing or coming up with a name required before seeing a list of the closest stations?

Same with restaurants. If I am in a new area, I may not no the names of the closest restaurants. Why no list button?

The list button will come up if the car is stationary. If you are moving then it will not come up. The legal beagles will not allow you to read a list while driving. Have you set up your quick POI from the navigation setup menu? This will then allow you to select it from the map while driving.

If you were stationary and click on the POI button it will bring up the page that I posed on the bottom of the first page to gmoller. If you click on the all local POI button it will bring up a list (area specific) that looks like this:

Each of the three systems has its advantages and disadvantages; however the Corvette system is the only one that provides correct directions near my home, and I do not live in a new area.

I learned a number of new tricks from reading your tutorial. Please continue to provide additional sections. Thanks again. Norm

I agree with your premise that the Navigation system is powerful but not as intuitive as it could be. Making matters worse, the factory manual is not very well written either. Your instructions might be marketable to GM!

Thanks for taking on this task and continuing to share your expertise with so many. Good Stuff.

Bob, Thank you. I would be honored if you wanted to do that. By all means. As noted, more to follow.

Thanks Paul!

The service manager and I sat in the car for 10 minutes playing with the NAV and couldn't figurer it out.

But, you say the list button will come up when the car is stationary. My list button only comes up after pressing POI on the destination selection screen, then press category, then select the POI, which brings you back to the type name etc screen. At this point the list button is still grayed out. Not until you start typing a name is my list button available, and then of coarse only a list that matches what was typed.

At least the "all local POI" list works as you describe. Is there a way that the list button can be made available as some as you pick a quick POI?

Thanks again for all your effort on this thread and all the other threads that I have been reading that has your input and advice.

Did you set up the quick POI choices from the navigation setup menu? Go to the main menu, navigation setup, quick POI selection and make sure you have selected your categories that you want to display.

Paul,

Excellent start. Do youkow if the colors on the screens are standard for road types, such as interstates, major, and secondary roads?

Thanks
Rick

Yes, I tried the POI default and also changed a few, still the list button is grayed. So I tried it again, this is what I did.

Press menu,
Press Enter Destination
Press POI
Press Category
Press Restaurant
Press All

This brings me back to the screen where I can type the name of the restaurant. Until I type a few letters the "list" button is grayed. Is your list button active as soon as a category is selected?

Nice job! I too like the factory NAV and your instructions here are reminding me of things I forgot or didn't even know..

I bought my wife an aftermarket GPS system that was being touted as the best in 2008 (A Nuvi). What a POS compared to my 05 GM nav unit. The GM unit has features that are not adequately explained so I look forward to looking through your work.

Good job, I think you have struck a nice balance between the textual descriptions and the screen shots.
