In theory, it's a problem. In our area, I don't recall ever hearing of this happening.
In most states, it's required to keep the registration (with your address) in the car (and there are often other papers with that info also). Sure, you can hide it. But if you get stopped at night, telling the cop that your registration is hidden under the seat, or in the trunk, or whatever; may get you a lot more attention than you want.

Good point, .... but I'd rather make the thief go through the trouble of inputing my address. With the low intelligence of the average thief, he probably would not be able to figure out how to use the corvette's navigation program logic anyway.

BTW, I thought this thread was a sticky?

I recently purchased a 2006 with nav. The dealer could not get it to work and sent me the updated version 9. There is only one disc and I assume I just load the disc and the update happens.

The disk IS the update. It is a disk based system, meaning that all the maps ,etc are on the disk. You have to keep the disk loaded for the navi to work.

To expand on that a little, the new disc will only provide newer information for the map and the POI listings. It will not change the functioning of the unit itself.

hi paul very good work,i am a new vette owner of six months I downloaded the gm nav manual from some sight online and starded to read it and put it into action. I love the
gm nav system I keep telling my friends it is so powerful if you put in the time to get use
to it but what I find is that most people I know don't want to read and follow instructions
so they bash the system, I have a garmin it is good but I prefer gm a lots better. thank you
for all the time you have put into your work if people will just take a little time and read it
they will find what great system they have.again thank you for all the hard work you have put in to make this as simple as possible keep up the good work.

Where is the least expensive place to buy a Version 9 for my 2009?

I won't go to the dealer because they are going to try to sell me a wheel alignment!

You can buy the latest version online through GM, Google up GM Nav Disc center for their site. Be careful, I'm not sure if the 2014 discs are available yet, they will sell you whatever they have and refuse to take it back even if a new version comes out tomorrow.

You can find the version # and part # for 2005-13 with the Search feature here.

You can also find them sometimes in the Parts for Sale section here, or on fleabay. Just be sure to check the part # and version #, there are other GM discs that won't work at all in a C6.

The current 2013 disc (22944166) surfaced around October 12th, 2012. I'm hopeful the 2014 version will appear soon...

But since C6 production has ended, I'm worried that making new discs for that system will end up on the back burner for GM.

The price is a real rip, and they should be making a bunch of money on every disc. But sometimes big companies ain't too bright about things like that.

Or maybe they want us all to trade our C6's for C7's; I'm told the updates are done internally but still cost about the same and you now have to go to a dealer to get it done. To me, that's a step backwards.

So they can sell you a new NAV with a C7 attached to it.

Joking aside, does anyone know why it now requires a dealer visit?

I have an '05, but my disc is an '07.

Twice in the last 6 years has it been a (minor) issue.

I was told that the C7 system does not use a removable DVD, the information is stored internally in the unit itself. And only dealers will have access to the updated information.

Default Navigation Issue

My Navigation will not let me add street address after a couple letters. The disc was new when I bought the car 2 years ago. How can I tell if its the disc or the unit. It is a '08.
