That IS quite a nest! Where did he get all that stuff and how the heck did he get in there? It looks like that filter was pretty funky otherwise. Makes a real strong case for at least checking that filter fairly often.
Damn lucky he didn't start gnawing other, more sensitive stuff.

Try Fabreze if the smell is still in the car. My daugter once left fresh shrimp in her car (well they were fresh at the time) and then didn't drive the car for about a month. It sat outside in the Texas sun - in the summer no less - and when we finally open the door to move the car the smell was ungodly. We sprayed Fabreze inside and the smell was gone within a few hours.
