WTF No MP3 Playback with nav???
I flew down to Georgia to pick up a new 09 C6. All I brought were MP3 formatted CDRs. They wouldn't play in my Vette and would not play in the Vettes on the lot with nav. They played in the standard 6 disk players in the Vettes fine. The dealer told me the Nav would not play MP3s but the stock changers could. I just got home after a two day 12 hundred mile drive listening to chity interpreted XM. I checked on line and Chevy says the Nav unit plays MP3s. Anybody
BTW the MP3s that wouldn't play in my Vette work fine in my other cars.

They do play MP3 discs. The only thing I can think of is that possibly when you recorded the CDs a setting was such that the nav head unit can't recognize them. Hopefully, FortMorganAl will chime in on this. He's one of the forum experts on this subject.

Once again, the dealer is underinformed. The Nav in the 2009 will play MP3 CD's. I do it in my 2005 on every drive. The problem is that the navigation radio requires a specific file structure to play the mp3 discs successfully. Simply having them work in other vehicles unfortunately is not indicative of them working in the Corvette navigation system. There is a wonderful thread on the forum with the in's and out's of burning an mp3 CD for the Corvette. There is also a very detailed description in the owners manual.

It may be the issue of compatible formatting. Check here and see if your MP3 CD's meet these guidelines:

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...-nav-unit.html

Good luck. Let us know what happens.

I've only tried a few MP3 CDs in the Vette, but they all play fine in my Hyundai Sonata w/ the factory Infinity sound system.

I have a 2005 (built late in the model year) with navigation and it plays the MP3 CDs fine. As per the instructions in a prior thread, I made a data disc and loaded the MP3 files onto it. I have a disc with over 200 songs on it. I was pleasantly surprised when it worked.
Good luck. I'll do a search and see if I can find the thread.

My '08 with nav plays MP3 CDs, but I have noticed it does weird things like won't play all the songs and somtimes won't skip past songs correctly. The track number will go up, but it will still play the same song over and over.

Maybe CD will have to be closed after burning before it plays ???
I have no problems playing MP3s in my 05 nav unit .
It may be time to upgrade either your burning software or even the hardware for that matter. First, try a slower burning speed on your CD burner as it will burn a deeper , more defined burn on the CD.

- You need software to burn MP3 discs and not just data discs.
- File or folder names longer than 25 characters plus ".MP3" will cause songs not to play and the wrong one to play.
- Only version 1 or 1.1 ID3 tags will display. Version 2.x will not.
Free programs:
- A.F.5 http://www.fauland.com/af5.htm Shorten file names quickly.
- ID3TagIT http://www.id3-tagit.de/ Create correct ID3 tags
- Media Monkey http://www.mediamonkey.com/ Organize and burn discs (Note: I haven't actually used this program yet but will soon. Several others have recommended it. I use Nero which is a commercial program.)

The NAV MP3 playback is a joke. It requires an outdated archaic file system on the cd containing the mp3s or they either won't play or will play partially. It's also slow to switch songs and search. Not unusable, but pretty much worthless if you're impatient.
Either listen to the XM or be prepared to burn a bunch of cd's.
Actually an FM transmitter with an ipod might be your best bet.

I can't figure this out to save my life...lol
I have tried burning data discs with Nero, Media Monkey, and Windows Media Player. I read somewhere on this forum the The single-disc + nav unit will not play mp3 cd's. But, when I put the CD in burned from Nero a blank file folder setup list showed up on the NAV screen, so I know it can be done. Media Monkey game me a "No Valid Disc Loaded" message. Media Monkey shrank the filenames to a max of 22 characters but no luck.
Please Help! I have a 2005 C6 with the in-dash NAV, single-disc player.

Ok. I found this thread on upgrading the firmware and considering trying, but I don't have a tech 2. Do i need a tech 2? If so, what is it?
Thanks to all who assist me in this journey to become MP3 compatible!!!
