First time
If it's your first time I guarantee the factory didn't set it at 18 pound feet. It's more in Gorillia pounds.
I just use a 3/8 drive rachette and snug it up good.

None of my strap filter wrenches would budge the filter. I then bought 2 different types, a socket with flutes and one that looked like large pliers. The one that resembles a large pair of pliers was the only filter wrench that would break the origional one loose. The fluted socket I purchased had the wrong number of flutes for the factory filter.

I thought the filter was going to twist in half the first oil change. It was on so tight I could not believe it! Very bad thing to over tighten a filter because it's MORE prone to leaks when you twist the gasket like that... Don't know what they are thinking at the factory!!
