Default Check Fuel System Warning

Help!! Recently on my '05 corvette the following message from the DIC appeared immediately after filling up with gas "Check Fuel System" . The manual states the message is generated by the "Powertrain Control Module" (PCM). The error finally clears out on its own. Has this occured with other forum members and exactly what is the cause. The tank is down about 8 gallons when I fill-up and the error message does not appear after each fill-up. Any chance of the engine not starting or other untimely event?

Had the same error message on my 05 - but only once and it was right after I filled it up. Did a couple of things (1) checked gas filler cap was on properly (2) Disconnected the battery for about 10 minutes. The error message never came back. May not help but that's what I did.

Make sure the fuel cap is OK. There is a TSB on the 05 caps and the dealer will give you one under warranty for 10 years or 120,000 miles.

Here is an old thread that I checked out when I had the issue in my 08. Did what aussieC6 said and fixed it. What's crazy is if you take it in to the dealer there is people whho have had things replaced from a sensor to the whole damn tank.

I have this problem for about three years now with my 05. I discovered a fix on my own and that is to not fill it up all the way. If I stop the pump about two gallons short of full then I don't get the erratic fuel gauge reading. Then one day I decided to fill it until the pump shuts off on its own, sure enough the gas gauge was erratic again for the first twenty or so miles.

I had a "service fuel system" earlier this weekend and the fuel gauge was stuck at empty. I read that it could have been bad gas confusing the fuel level sending unit. Anyways, after I ran a few tanks through it cleared.

I will not use BP gas again.

Many thanks for the link!! - looks like other have had the same problem. My concern is that the dealer will over react and dismantle the tank.

Default One of the fixes

with my C6 gas tank guage every tick mark is a gallon. Example the guage has 16 tick (16 gallon capacity). At 1/2 a tank you have 8gallons remaining.
With that I know to only fill up with 8 gallons.
The guage shows full at the first tick mark without any error or erratic needle flopping from full to empty.

Dealer say say they can replace the sensor for $1500.00. But within a year or so it will have the same problem.

Therefore My fix is the most economical.

I was under the impression that all C6s have the same fuel capacity of 18 gallons. Mine has 8 marks on the fuel gauge, 4 x 1/4 and 4 x 1/2 of each of those.

yes you are correct. I believe the last marking will indicate 2 gallons left. But I'm not about to find out.
All I know is when the neddle is on a the half way point and I fill it to 8 gallons it shows a full tank without issues. Also when the neddle gets pass two clicks after the half tank mark and I fill it with 10 gallons the neddle gets to the full tank mark without issues.
