WOW, Installed my PAL with Rays Harness, what an easy install. I had a bout of stupity halfway thru and Ray straightened me right out..Great Job RAY>>>>Next please work on Bluetooth, then the Economy ,global warming and world peace. In that order please...Thanks again RAY great Job Sir..
As a note to other Vette owners with a Sirius module, John found that his Sirius module had a 10 pin connector with a short adapter harness to be able to plug into the original 16 pin Yazaki XM receiver connector.
To use the Sirius module with the PAL harness, you simply leave the Sirius adapter harness plugged into the Sirius module. Then unplug that harness from the 16 pin connector and insert the custom PAL harness.
The Sirius module should work fine with the PAL.

I'm glad it worked out for you, John.

That's the lower right hand wire that you use to install the Sirius SIR-GM1 box anyway
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...w-sir-gm1.html
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...w-sir-gm1.html
Also the link you provided is a good one for those interested in the Sirius module.
From the comments on that post, I still wonder if there is any advantage to the Sirius module now that XM and Sirius have merged. Some seem to say that the sound quality is better and some say it's about the same.
I don't listen to XM much anymore, since the PAL allows me to play all of my favorite music on my Ipod.

Hi Ray.
I installed the PAL over the weekend in my 2005 vert and it was unbelievably easy! The hardest part for me was trying to figure out how to disconnect the connector plug from the XM receiver. It took me a while to figure out that there was a clip on the connector that needed to be released before the plug would disengage. Once that was done, I completed the entire installation in under an hour. Last week I updated the radio firmware to play MP3s, again without a hitch!
All the radio and IPOD controls work just fine, and the song titles artists etc. display perfectly. I can't thank you enough for making this an easy and fun DIY project. Thanks again for all of your hard work and your willingness to share it with the forum members!

From your results and other threads on the forum, I think we can conclude that the PAL will work in all years of C6 Corvettes as long as the Nav unit has the latest firmware.
This is covered in Question 2 of the FAQ page:
http://www.kawal.net/PALFAQs.htm
and there is a link there for those few owners who may need to update their firmware.

Note; Whoever buys the GM PAL Ipod interface and elects to follow GM's 4+ hour install instead of buying/using Ray's simple, much less tramatic to your C6 and your sanity, and quicker than Skynard's Free Bird is Krazy with a capitol K!! Or just likes to take their Corvette apart and put it back together again.
Thanks Ray Kawal for a very well thought out and time saving, Ipod interface harness.

Harness Availability Update
Just a note to folks interested in these harnesses. I have plenty in stock, but my wife and I are leaving on a road trip next Tuesday for about ten days. So for those thinking about sending a check, it takes a few days to get here. Paypal is instant of course.
We should be back around November 19th.

Will this work on my 2005? I have Nav but no XM...
Thank you.
Thank you.
For those of you who have been following this thread:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...-adapters.html
and reading the details about the installation of the PAL, some of you may be deciding against purchasing a PAL because of the difficulty and/or expense of installing it.
I now offer a wiring harness that will allow you to install a PAL in less than 30 minutes, with the following features:
1. No removal of the center console or Nav unit.
2. No cutting of factory wire harness.
3. No difficult splice pack access.
4. No difficult routing of cables to the electrical panel.
5. No modification of the glove box.
6. Charging of all late model Ipods and Iphones.
7. Console access of Ipods and Iphones.
All of the above will be possible with a new PAL wiring harness that plugs into the XM receiver rather than the back of the Nav unit. All you will have to do is unplug the connector at the XM receiver and plug it into the new wiring harness. Then plug a connector on the harness into the XM receiver. The PAL module will be installed to the rear of the XM receiver in the coupe/Z06s and behind the waterfall in the convertibles.
The Ipod cable that comes with the PAL is only 4' long, so it won't reach the glove box in any Vette. But the iSimple 4' charging adapter:
http://isimplesolutions.com/CES/ReVolt.asp
can be purchased to not only extend the Ipod cable but also allow charging of all late model Ipods and Iphones. This cable can be routed to the console area along the passenger seat to connect to your Ipod or Iphone. Convertible owners who don't need the charging adapter for their older Ipods/Iphones can get by without the extension cable.
You can purchase the extension here:
http://www.discountcarstereo.com/detail.aspx?ID=1337
I offer the new PAL XM wiring harness for $35, plus $5 for Priority Mail shipping.
I'd like to know about how many Corvette owners would be interested in this option so I can work with the harness supplier. I know a lot of owners have already purchased their PALs and have them installed per the GM instructions, but there may be quite a few owners who are still interested, especially since the installation will be so simple. If you are, please email, rather than PM, me.
Coupe/Z06 owners will have to access the XM receiver above the left rear wheel well, which is easy if you just pull back the carpet. Convertible owners have access behind the waterfall, which is also easy to remove if you follow the instructions on the website:
http://www.kawal.net/PAL%20install.htm
It would have been nice if GM could have offered this installation option, but there are a number of reasons why this couldn't happen. The PAL is a neat product, but installation is considerably more difficult than that for most of the aftermarket Ipod adapters. This new wiring harness will make it just as simple to install as the aftermarket adapters.
Update as of 9/5/09: Shipping of harnesses began 9/3/09.

I am not much a a mechanic but this install was as easy as pie and works perfectly on my 09 vert.
Thanks for this Ray. Without it, I probably wouldn't have put the PAL in my car

Howdy,
Take a look at Question 3 on the following FAQ webpage:
http://www.kawal.net/PALFAQs.htm
There is a procedure for installing the PAL in a non-XM car (with Nav), but a couple of owners have complained about battery draining. There is a software issue that is being addressed, but not yet resolved to fix this problem.
But one owner solved his problem by purchasing and installing a Sirius module where the XM receiver would be installed. Here's the link:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...ite-radio.html
Take a look at the last posts and see what you think. There will be a solution to this issue, but I can't say when.
In the meantime, take a look at your car and make sure you have the XM receiver wiring harness already there.

Harness Availability Update
I just returned from a road trip to visit the supplier of the PAL kits. I hope to have some interesting options for C6 owners in the near future.
For those of you who ordered harnesses while I was gone, all have now been shipped.

Harness Differences
I've been getting a lot of emails and PMs asking about the new harness described in this link:
http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c6-c...nt-use-xm.html
Some are confused because they are both sort of Ipod related. So here is the explanation:
Most people use an Apple Ipod or Iphone for their music handling and storage. So GM came up with the PAL (Personal Audio Link) to enable connection of their Ipods or Iphones with their car's audio system. It is a great device because it provides such a nice interface with the Vette's Navigation unit (also soon to be offered for non-Nav as well). You can control the Ipod right from the Nav screen so you can store your Ipod out of sight. The PAL also charges the Ipod through it's single connection cable. My harness allows an easy method for installing the PAL in a C6 Corvette.
This new harness described in the new thread only provides an auxiliary input into the Vette's audio system, so you can connect ANY music device that has a standard 3.5mm (1/8") jack for headphones. You can then listen to the device through the audio system. But you have no dash control over the device, nor will the device battery be charged.
So these are two different harnesses for two different purposes.
