Front tire wear - wow !
Anyone notice their front tires wearing rather quickly? At 12k miles, I saw that I was down about 50%...yet the rears are like new. The wear is perfectly even...not just on the edges indicating an alignment issue.
And having prior experience with the cost of runflats, I even adapted my driving style to take corners "easy" so I can't even blame myself for this.
A friend at work with a C6 had to change his around the same mileage, 12K.
Whats up with this?

If you have been around Corvettes much, you know that this is standard procedure for the stock alignment. They put in too much neg camber (and toe) for normal driving, but it is supposed to be better for "high performance activities"...... it has cost me thousands of $ over the past eight years!

Perfectly normal although several folks report scalloping or excessive inside edge wear.
There have been a number of posts concerning the mileage before tire replacement and frankly, it's all over the board - -understandably dependent upon driving style, road surfaces, inflation, etc.
There are a heck of a lot of people that don't get 12k miles out of their first set of tires and apart from the pain of pricey replacements, they've enjoyed every minute of it !

Your profile says 2004 coupe. What C6 do you have? Do you have the Z51 option? Those tires wear about twice as fast as non-z51 coupes & verts.
I measure the tread wear on my non-Z51 coupe once a year. I should get about 32K-35K out of the front tires and 40K to 45K out of the rear tires.
Note that the front tires on a non-Z51 C6 have 10/11" of tread when new, the rear tires have 11/32" of tread when new. On a Z51 C6, all 4 tires have only 9/32" of tread when new.

sounds about normal to me. consider yourself lucky, I'll be thrilled if I get 24k out of my front tires. The corvette is a serious sports car and has some soft, sticky tires.

My front tires are in great condition my back ones are something completly different. Have 23,000 miles and expect fronts to last another 10k back maybe 5k if i am lucky. If you want the backs to wear the same as the fronts just do some burn outs.

From someone who knows people on the assembly line, I learned that the person doing the alignments on the assembly line said that it takes about 10 minutes to do the job correctly but he's given only 3. The advice was and is, always get the car aligned immediately after buying it.

I changed my fronts at 13K. Went to Michelin PS2 ZP's. Still running the rears. Got 16K now, but they are pretty much done. Will be time for new PS2's for the rear soon. That should set me back another K...

Good info... I checked my tires (FE3) last week at 4300 miles... Fronts at 7/32's all the way across and the rears were at 8/32's all the way across.

If they're F1 Supercars, 50% treadwear at 12K is significantly BETTER than average. If they're GS2s, you're a little below average. Your car sounds fine.

I had a 4 wheel alignment done on my car at 300 miles and after 10k they are wearing perfectly. Even wear front and back. It does seem strange that you need to get a new car aligned though.

On the next set of tires, use the "nose elevation lever" under your right foot to extend the life of the front tires. Just mash it all the way down as often as you can in your day-to-day driving. You'll notice that this raises the front end a good bit, thereby reducing the weight on the front tires. They should last longer if you do this regularly.

no, you don't. does seem odd tho. my fronts are still ok, but my rears I replaced with 16K on them. that's after an alignment at about 2500 miles. I think there's a lot of variances in roads, driving styles, if/when an alignment is done, tire pressure maintenance, etc., to really predict accurately across the board what mileage we will get with Z06, Z51 or non-Z51 suspension tires.

Sure.. all those burn outs finally caught up with you! I'm telling the boss you're smoking the tires all the time!!
