they will stop making the zr-1.
the z06 is a 50-50 shot, imho,to be stopped as well. The next gen will be smaller displacement and less hp,but almost as quick due to technology.More HP in the '11 LS3??I doubt it.

I don't think there will be any hp increase.

I would not be surprised to see the Z06 killed off next year and the ZR1 killed off soon after. GM can't afford to do anything else.

I thought i read somewhere that the ZR1 was only going to be built 3 years. I could see the Z06 getting canned with maybe a small bump in HP on the Grand Sport. I am concerned with the Corvette plant being D-Rated again to only 8 cars per hour and even at that rate they are still working less than half the weeks

Doubt we'll see an LS3 hp increase for model year 2011. Maybe in 2012 if the LS3 gets direct injection.

But don't expect a big increase. According to one of the Corvette's Engineers (Tadge Juechter?) at the C5/C6 Bash in April, the hp gain with DI would be maybe 5%.

5% of 436 is 21.8 hp so round that up to 22 hp. 458 hp in the base car wouldnt be that bad.

5% of 505 is 25.25 horse so 530 hp in the Z06.

5% of 638 is 31.9 rounded up to 32 would mean 670 hp ZR1.

Here is my 2 cents worth. With the recent article that there will be a Z28 Camaro with the big 550 HP or so I will bet the GS gets the LS3 with the 480HP. We had an event at the big Corvette dealer here a couple of weeks ago and there were over 300 Corvettes there for the evening. There was an LS3 there on display with 480HP. I am thinking its coming and with the paddle shift automatic transmission. If Cadillac offers the higher HP with an automatic then there is no reason as to why it wont be in the Corvette. I have no knowledge of this happening for sure, its just that I have a strong feeling about this. I myself would have a Z06 or ZR1 if it was available with the automatic. I also understand other peoples thoughts about less HP. Remember, the 96 GS had the LT4 with 30 more HP. I have never been able to understand why the current GS has no additional HP. I am guessing more HP was planned and like the Z28 it was delayed because of the economy. Again, just my 2 cents worth here. Paul...

Ah, you young guys just fascinate me endlessly. Reading your posts I can almost recall what I felt like in, oh, about 1969, regarding the future of muscle cars.

It took decades for technology to improve to a point that high hp could be made with much less gasoline and exhaust emissions AND do it without LEAD in the gas ( that is make big hp with puny octane ).

That's going to happen is hp is going to drop not increase.

The funny thing is people have been crying "It's like 1969 all over again!" for the past five years or so.

My fearless prediction? In one or two years there will be a hp bump, but not to 500. More like 450-460 at the most. Z06? Gone in two years. ZR1? Gone in two years.

Profit margin way too large to eliminate both Z06 and ZR1. They will most likely stick around until the C7 comes out. Z06 will get LSA w/DI within 2 years. LS7 is a goner. And there is absolutely no way any of the models will see a HP reduction until the lighter, smaller C7 comes out. Might as well just close the plant if that was the plan.

There will not be a Camaro Z28. It has been killed. In it's place you will be able to get a Calloway Camaro.

Yes, except I think C6 direction-injection is only planned for the LS3 -- not the Z06 and not the ZR1.

Anybody else think DI will include cylinder deactivation and a taller rear-axle ratio? Same performance with better mpg... very politically correct.

Profit margins aren't very large if nobody buys them. The ZR1 simply can't make it at a $120k price point. The Z06 could survive as you state - but it's quickly approaching $90k. I just don't see sales holding up in that price range. I think the GS becomes top dog. But we're all just guessing here - who knows?

my guess would be similar

My guess is that the ZR1 will be gone in 2 years...
The base will be gone in 1 year...
The GS will become the "base" with 460hp, the Z06 will stay with 535 hp...
