Mobil1 1-101 No by pass.
What filter is right if either, and is the dry sump a consideration?

Alaska Cool Like Ice,

See, this is the problem with bringing back a zombie thread from more than 8 years ago... Everyone will respond to the original posters question and not even realize that the question was asked almost 99 months ago, while your comment/question gets lost and ignored...

The best thing to do is ask that question in a new thread, or better yet search for a couple of minutes to try and see if it's a common question that has already been asked and answered.

Either way, good luck in your search for knowledge, let 8 year old posts sleep, try a search, if you can't find what you're looking for... ask away!!

P.S. a quick search of the Mobil1 web site shows that the Mobil1, M1-113 as their recommendation for both the 2012 GS and Base with 6.2L

Mobi1 web site, filter selector....https://mobiloil.com/en/product-selector

Good luck and welcome!

Totally agree with above post. ^^^^.

Old thread but I'll chime in in case someone new here is looking for advice . . . have used AC Delco, Mobil 1 and K/N filters on my '13 C6 GS - none seem better or worse than the other. But I don't drive enough miles to wear out any of them.. I'd buy any based on price alone and feel fine.

(I did, however, just get rid of our 2004 Toyota RAV4 - had 174,000 miles on it, but still ran perfectly with no noises or leaks and averaging 25 mpg. I used Castrol 5/30 synthetic blend oil and a basic Fram filter, all bought for around $20 at Walmart and changed every 5000 miles.

So I will not ever use a Fram filter on my GS because I am really comfortable with the other brands, but I certainly won't complain about Fram quality either.)

I would't put a Fram on my lawn mower. Mobil 1 or AC Delco only.

I hear ya there. It's amazing how much that little nut helps the whole process out isn't it.....

Fram...

If you want to use Purolator, stay with the high end Pur1 filters. Their standard line isn't so good. I only use UPF48R's, Mobil 1, Pur1, or Wix.

I used to use the ACDelco PF48, but I switched to the higher quality UPF48R when they started putting plastic parts in PF48 and then renamed it the PF48E.

As someone else mentioned here, the higher quality UPF48R is made by Champion Labs.

I never had an oil filter leak until I used a Mobil 1 filter. I am wondering if Mobil 1 had a bad batch because others had experienced leaks also.

I switched to Wix Xp and no issues. Wix Xp are quality oil filters designed for fully synthetic oils. They are constructed with steel base plate and wired-back fully synthetic media.

Me too. Wix XP for my vette. Wix, or Napa Gold/Platinum for everything else.

Mobil1 oil is very good but their filters SUCK!!!! I smelled oil and was wondering why so I looked under the car and there is a drip. The filter is leaking so I went back to the store and the counter guy told me that they were having a lot of complaints with the seals leaking on the mobil1 filters as of late. I am now using purolator boss.

Same here. I've used Mobil 1 oil filters on my 2006 for 11 years.

Add another vote for the Mobil 1 filters !!!

However - the reason for the post is to say that I would NOT recommend the K&N filters any more. K&N used to be every bit as good as the Mobil 1 filter - at least when it was made by Champion Labs.

However - from what I read - K&N moved manufacturing of their filters to Mexico a few years ago - and guess what - Quality suffered !!! (If you question this - go to a VERY VERY Large Internet sales site a.k.a **AZON) and look at the reviews for K&N filters. They used to be excellent - but now - not so good - poor welds, rust on the ID of the filters due to poor plating, etc. etc. etc. The country or manufacture is ink jet printed on the filter itself - but can be somewhat hard to read. So - I stay away from the non US made K&N filters.

Wix Gold / Platinum are supposedly also excellent filters - but I tend to stick with the Mobil 1 filters for the Vette.

I've been using Fram forever. Can't understand all the bashing. I know they were marginal quality for a while, but now they are good. Right now I own 5 SBC's and they have mostly had Frams's on them. A few AC/Delco's too. Bosch and Purolator(who makes Bosch) are good quality too.

By the way, thats a great deal on Mobil1. That's all I run in everything. Even my lawnmower and snowblower.

I have used Mobil1 along with Mobil1 oil filters since 2003. Never had a problem with either one.

Same reason a lot of people won't own a Bayliner or Hyundai. Once they're ****, they're always ****. It doesn't matter how much they've improved.

Yes - I did read that ... Now we need to know where the leak came from (filter gasket, porosity in the metal filter can, where), and if at all possible - WHY ? I tend to overtighten oil filters - and the reason is that many years ago- I was putting them on the way that many recommend - tighten to contact then 3/4 turn to 1 turn more. After doing that - 3,000 miles later - the filter was barely finger tight. OK - I guess we need to go a bit more - so from that point on I did - regularly. Maybe the leak was caused by the filter not being tight enough... Maybe the gasket on the filter was defective. Maybe there was a nick on the oil filter mounting pad, Maybe a little crud got on the gasket as the filter was being installed...

I can tell you - the Mobil 1 filters use some of the thickest wall filter cans of any oil filter out there. That alone is not the end all of oil filter quality - but it does say something. If you want to - do some internet searching on "Oil Filters", you'll find some people have cut a number of filters open and examined what's inside ... and spend a bit of time on the "bobistheoilguy" website. Some very good info is available to those who wish to avail themselves of it.

I've been using the K&N and the Mobil 1 filters for way more than a decade and so far - no problems. I would still be using the K&N's if they were made in the USA. And no problems here. If I do run tnto problems - I will certainly change brands - but so far (at least for me) so good !!!

I have never let anyone change my oil. Always done it myself. (for over 50 years). The only filter I ever had a problem with was a Purolator. It had a very small leak and could have been my fault for not cleaning the sealing surface properly. That said I use mobil 1 and wix in my 2012.
