i'm moving south in early january the thought of constant 80's and 90's in a black on black vette( my z06) really isn't appealing so i thought i'd try to swap for a vert no chevy in the area has a vert so i'm think i'm trading the vette for an 08 911 carrera cabriolet with about 4,000 miles silver with a mocha interior i'm meeting with the manager tomorrow but we had discussed this earlier it breaks down to about 66,000 for the 911 43,000 for the vette

Ok, without punctuation it was hard to fully follow what you wrote. I'm in texas and my Corvette is black.. not understanding what your logic is? Are you saying because the weather is better, you are wanting a convertible? Not sure what that has to do with the color though..
Also, I wouldn't pay $23,000 for a downgrade to the 911 Carrera Cabriolet.

3.6L H6, 24 valves, 325 hp
vs.
7.0L V8, 505hp
I'm sorry but that's insane.
Not certain what your saying here.
But, if your looking at a 911 carrera cabriolet just be sure it is the real thing. Many people with the current economy have been buying Porsche badges and placing them on their VW's and trying to make some extra cash. Just use caution and make sure its a Porsche. I know its not easy but a qualiified mechanic should be able to help.

Very true. Can you spot the Porsche in these pictures?

I'm sorry but thats the funniest thing I read all day
i'll tell you what's insane. maybe in texas they look at things a little differently, but calling a 911 carrera a downgrade is a little odd even for this forum. i love vettes,i've had 13 ut that doesn't blind me to the fact that there are other exciting cars out there and i'd certainly consider porsche. i've traded a vette for a viper, and another one for an aston marten. they were also great cars( except for the viper hated it) but i always come back to vettes.as i probably will this time not to call a 911 a downgrade is just stupid sure it's only got 397 horsepower compared to 505 but where on earth am i going to use the extra 108 hp driving to work or the beach?
Comparison of vehicles--check out a Corvette Grand Sport Vert and maybe mod it!!

Good Morning, again, JerseyZ,
I've owned previously a C-6 convertible, a Porsche 911 Turbo, and a Ferrari 430. I'm currently driving (mostly as a DD) a 2009 black Z06 modified to 500 rwhp with bolt ons, and with Pfadt coil overs, polyurethane bushing suspension mods, sound deadening and heat insulation additons.
From a cost effective /bang-for-the-buck /quality view point...... the Corvette Z06 wins big time relative to both the Porsche 911 TT and the Ferrari 430 in performacnce and value. However, interior materials quality is better in both the Porsche and Ferrrai, relative to the Z06.... but at a significant $$ difference. ...And of course there are the snob appeal /Prestige factors of Porsche / Ferrari ownership, which appeal to the country club set and high end women (!!)compared to the Chevrolet Corvette C6 Z06 or C6 Vert. Is this your real reason for contemplating a switch from Chevrolet to Porsche!?!!
However, my previous '07 C-6 converible (F-55 , A6, Nav chrome and Black / tan top / tan interior), was a great car, with similar bolt on engine mods and sound deadening / heat damping mods.
Hard to beat in value, except maybe by a new 2010 Grand Sport Vert, with similar mods!!
Bottom Line. If I were you, I would research a loaded 2010 Corvette Grand Sport Convertible versus the Porsche Carrera 911 Cabriolet choice. Please drive both before committing and maybe some other guys who have owned both Porshe Cabriolets and loaded C-6 Verts (especially the new Grand Sport iteration) can chime in.
Regards,
Duffy

Reason: typos, spelling (!)

If you want a Porsche and that is what appeals to you at this time sure buy it. But I do not see the connection with the weather, I assume your Z has AC. Driving a Vert in hot weather is no cooler than driving your Z with the air on.
If HP is no concern why spend the big bucks on these type of cars in the first place. A lot of nice cars out there without the "wow" factor for driving to work and the beach.

What exactly am I looking at differently... an overpriced European car that doesn't perform near as well as the Z06? The fact that the GS is quicker/faster than the carrera? The fact that the vette looks nice, versus looking like a slugbug ? If I am overlooking something completely obvious, please let me know.
Also, 397hp? The 2008 911 Carrera Cabriolet has 325 according to one Wikipedia page, and 340 according to another. But definitely not 397 like you're claiming.

ok. i'm flexiblei was on my way to the porsche dealer to drive the car when chevy called to tell me they found me a car it's a 2010 cyber gray vert black top two tone seats, nav, blue tooth chrome wheels it will be here on monday.
Hey don't take what I said personally or anything, everyone has their own tastes and if you like the Porsche better, who am I to tell you not to get it. It's not my money. I just wouldn't pay that money for a worse performer and worse looker.
So your saying you did not want the blk/blk Z because it would be too hot? The color won't make much difference in FL when it's hot it's hot. You just need a car with good AC. In the hot season I know I wouldn't be using the Vert until 8 at night when the temp drops. If your just driving to beach its one thing but your not going to have top down going to work in 100 degree temp, unless you dont sweat. Temp now is great and you could do Vert more but dont really get the argument you stated.
