V-8 era ends at GM's Tonawanda plant
Another article.

Kinda sad. The BB has a lot of history in the automotive world.

Ron, so sorry to hear about the passing of your father.
Too bad those 150 employees are now out of work so close to Christmas. I sure hope that our political representatives and industrial leadership realizes that we need to focus on becoming a manufacturing nation again, put people back to work, establish new long term goals that give people optimism for the future and motivation in the present to want to achieve those goals.

There was a link to this thread and to a thread in the C3 forums about the same article. The C3 guys reacted to the news as you might have expected: Damn, that's where my rat motor came from!
It wouldn't mean the same thing to the C6 crowd, for self-evident reasons.
All I have to say about the LSA is this:
http://www.worldcastings.com/product...e-engines.html
After 47 years the Mk IV design is still competitive, and that crate motor is a drop in for a C2 or C3. Old does not mean slow!

Sorry to see Tonawanda close. I can still remember the first time I looked under the hood of my L-78 425 H.P. Chevy and seeing the decal on the valve cover that said "Built by Chevrolet #1 Team- Tonawanda." Passing of another icon in Corvette history.

So, you think you know enough about me to pass judgement? What about my posts makes you think that I am uncaring? I'm not the one who posted "Who cares?". I truly did not understand the point of the original post and why it was in the C6 General section. I was not aware that they produced the old Corvette big blocks. I do feel sorry for those that lost their jobs, not just those at this plant, but all those who have suffered in this economic downturn.

probably more to do with NY's tax'es, and they will just shift production to another factory. NY"s doing the same thing CA is... driving all their industry out!

Wow. Now I wonder what the boat manufactuers will do? There are thousands of BB chev based mercruisers out there. There must be at least 400 just in my marina. Actually, I can't think of any marine gas power that uses a BB, that is not Chev based? Ford and Chrysler made some back in the 60's, and maybe the 70's, but nothing lately. Ford SB still power some ski boats, but other than those,..??? Think I'll start looking for a couple of spares? Damn.
This is my last boat that I sold about 10 years ago - it had twin HP500 (502 cubic inch, 500 hp) engines in it.

Pity for the plant and pity for the Buffalo area. It's just another nail in the coffin for the already weakened New York State manufacturing sector. For those not from NY, Albany is chock full of low life thieves, ***** mongers and felons. See articles on three convicted NYS low life's below.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ny_c...am_monser.html - girlfriend beater/slasher
Apologies to the forum for the political ranting, but if these guys were just a little bit interested in doing the jobs they were elected/hired to do, then NY state might be in better shape.
