Default Hatch Release/Catch

I had a 2005 C-6 with the "draw" latch for the rear hatch. You pushed down slowly until it caught. Then it automatically pulled down to the latch position.

I just traded up to a 2007 Z-06. On this model, I have to either push down hard for the latch to catch or push down until it connects and then push down with the palm of my hand until it catches.

Does this model have the auto catch and it is not working properly . . . or . . . was the catch changed, and it is now a more manual process?

THANKS

The trick is to pull down the hatch with some authority (but not slamming it) using your right hand gripping the finger pull-pad on the underside (rt. of center) of the hatch. When the hatch is about 2/3 down, release your grip from the pull-pad and the hatch should have sufficient momentum to continue down and make contact with the latch mechanism and conclude with a soft clicking sound.
Keep in mind that if the doors are closed and the windows are up, the hatch will offer some resistance to closing as it is essentially compressing the volume of air trapped in the car's interior.
If the windows are down,or a door is open, the same amount of pull on the hatch will result in it slamming shut with enough gusto that you'll cringe at the thought of what could have happened: shattered glass or smashed latch mechanism.
So it takes a bit of practice to make it poetry-in-motion but the latch on my 2007 C6 is definitely different from the draw-down latch set-ups used on the Camaros of the 80's (my son had one of those and it was a POS so I'm familiar with the differences). Hope this helps.

There was no auto pull catch for the hatch on a z06 until 2009!

On my '05' I've always just gently laid down the hatch, give it a slight push and the pull down motor takes over. Always worked fine for me.

I wasn't sure, but after the above post by vetehead, I looked up the changes for 2009 that were posted here by Ken Fichtner and here's a quote from that post:

Power hatch pull down is now on Z06 and ZR1
So, the 2007 Z06 does not have the power hatch pull down.

As mentioned, your 2007 doesn't have the pull down latch - however, you can add it if you really feel the need!!

I had a 2005 with it and really missed it when I got a 2006 Z06, so I installed one. Here's a link to a thread about what it took to get it installed (you'll have to scroll down to about post# 44 to get to where I finally got the parts and did the installation):
