Default Question - Orange light near passenger side visor

About 1 month ago I purchased by first vette, and 05 M6 1SB. Does anyone know what the orange light is near the passenger side visor closer to the rear view mirror? I have not been able to find any information on it. The size of the light is about the size of the pencil eraser. It's just one of those little things that's driving me crazy.

Thanks in advance.

It provides some ambient light on the console below. It was eliminated in '08.

It's to keep the cabin from being too dark at night. Just had a thread on this a couple of days ago.

The information about it is NOT in the 2005 owner's manual, but here's what the 2006 owner's manual says:

An ambient light is located in the passenger sun visor
clip. This light stays on while driving to keep the
cabin from being too dark.

Is this the shortest time between this post and the last inquiry?

It is just an interior light to keep the cabin from being too dark at night. That is it. There is mention of it in the owners manual. This was discontinued on later models.

This question used to come up all the time, but not much during the last several months. And now, twice in one week!

As noted above, it's not in the 2005 owner's manual. OP has a 2005.

Reading Lamps
Your inside rearview mirror includes two reading lamps.
The lamps will go on when a door is opened. When
the doors are closed, each lamp can be turned on
individually by pressing the switch for that lamp.

An ambient light is located in the passenger sun visor
clip. This light stays on while driving to keep the
cabin from being too dark.

Battery Run-Down Protection
Your vehicle has a feature to help prevent you from
draining the battery in case the underhood lamp, vanity
mirror lamps, cargo lamps, reading lamps, console
or glove box lamps are accidentally left on. If you leave
any of these lamps on, they will automatically time-out
after about 20 minutes. To reset it, all of the above
lamps must be turned off or the ignition key on.
Head-Up Display (HUD)
{CAUTION:
If the HUD image is too bright, or too high in
your field of view, it may take you more time to
see things you need to see when it is dark
outside. Be sure to keep the HUD image dim
and placed low in your field of view.
If your vehicle is equipped with the Head-Up Display
(HUD), you can see some of the driver information that
appears on your instrument panel cluster.
The information may be displayed in English or metric
units and appears as an image focused out toward
the front of your vehicle. The HUD consists of the
following information:
• Speedometer
• Turn Signal Indicators
• High-Beam Indicator Symbol
• Tachometer

When I bought my '05 I was driving it home, in the dark, with my hand resting on the shifter, saw the light on my hand, and...holy crap, I am being sucked into a parallel universe by aliens. But I am tuff and I made it home.

There are threads around here too on how to change out that ambient LED to a color more desired. Changed mine to red to match the rest of the interior LED lighting.

Changed mine to a blue LED that matches my LMB exterior as well. Looks cool.

My VW Touareg SUV has 2 red LEDs that shine down from the mirror. I changed my '06 Vette LED to a much brighter Red one.

I really like the effect.

Do the mod and put an Led light in there it really shows more light, but not overpowering. I did this from the forum.
