Does the CD player play MP3’s on the cd?
I see that the new C6 has a cd player that plays MP3’s. The dealer told me today that it only plays MP3’s through the auxiliary connection to an Ipod or something similar. He said that the CD player only played conventional CD’s and not MP3’s on the CD. Is he right?

All of the cd players in the OEM head units will play MP3 CDs. The earliest navigation radio (2005) would not play MP3 CDs without the installation of a firmware update. The only CD player for the Corvette that will not play MP3 CDs is external CD changer that is sold as an accessory and mounts in the rear storage compartment.

Not only will it play MP3 cds, it will play MP3 CDRWs so you can re-use them. You can fit quite a few songs on an MP3 cd. It isn't as good as having ipod connectivity or xm/sirius, but it's a nice feature.
You just have to be sure and burn the CD as an MP3 cd in whatever burning software you use. IIRC you also have to make sure you close the session on the CD.

Although I will say that the MP3 playing software from the 05 Nav firmware update is a piece of crap. Horrible interface, and I've had a number of MP3 that stop playing midway through.
Don't know if they improved it in the later years.

it plays them fine - but I find myself making REGULAR cds, because I'm a bit ADD with my music, when I would hit the next button, it would take a few seconds to get the next song going. going backwards was the same way.
I like being able to get to my music quickly and the MP3 method just didn't cut it for me.

Heck, even my 05 with the regular non Bose radio will play MP3s just fine. As Sunset05 said, it will also play the CDRW with MP3 encoding just fine. That is what I use all the time.

You should be able to burn an MP3 CD and it should play. If not then the system was downgraded from the base model I got in 2006. Give it a try, at worst, you'll spend less than $1 on burning an MP3 CD.
