I don't know and don't care. They're two different cars. If they did everything the same as the Corvette everyone would complain. I'm not saying you're complaining but I don't understand why everyone has to over think details that just don't matter. Sorry if I sound harsh but I'm in a grumpy mood at 6:30am. LOL

Hi ARD. Your sharp eye continues to notice GM's cost costing moves.
GM corporate pinheads, armed with quill pens, conducted a multi-million dollar study to determine that they could save approximately $0.29 per unit by painting the Camaro the same red as the Silverado pickup truck, the Victory Red paint for which can be obtained at a modest discount from the cost of Torch Red paint because of the sheer volume of red trucks.
In a public relations move calculated to disguise the underlying cost saving motivation, GM then dispensed the same corporate hacks that used to operate on the Corvette forum to the Camaro forum to wax nostalgic about the lines of the Camaro and about how those lines are far better served by painting the car Pickup Truck Red than painting the car Corvette Red.
Be grateful. At least we don't have to listen to that story as much around here any more.

Because the Vette guys whined and bitched. IMO the folks at GM knew what they were doing when they decided that Torch Red looks too washed-out on the C6 body.

1. Because GM stylists know that TR washes out on cars with angular lines and flat, bisected surfaces....AND IT WOULD NOT ACCENTUATE THE CAMARO'S MANY STYLING CUES....(the C5 didn't have ANY BISECTED FLAT SURFACES.....LIKE THE PORSCHE 911).....
2. Because 2010 Camaro production actually started during the 2009 GM production year.....
3. Because Camaro has Inferno Organge (Metallic)........which under certain lighting conditions looks red.........
4. Because the Vette has had multiple years of VR production runs.....and 2010 was the first year for VR for the Camaro....

Because the Bowling Green plant has the ability to paint any model Vette any color they want. That was not true prior to the Cadillac ending production. The area is now used for painting.

Totally wrong and shows just how little you know about automotive assembly plants. They do not do custom colors or any color you want as there are only a few paint supply systems that can be used. The BG plant does not have very many supply systems.

I should have been more clear that you can order any Corvette color for any model Corvette. That was not the case before the new painting area was opened. There were certain colors that you could not get with certain models.

I still don't understand why this was the case. Prior to model year 2010, if they could paint a base coupe or convertible Arctic White or CRM, why couldn't they paint a Z06 or ZR-1 in those colors? How does the dropping of the XLR matter? I've asked the question several times here but no one seems to know the answer.

As for VR vs. Torch Red - There was nothing wrong with VR for the Corvettes... for the first 3-4 years. After a while, you need to update the colors to try to stimulate sales. The Camaro team probably made the same decision as the Corvette team did a few years ago - VR would be a great color to offer. In another 3-4 years, they'll probably drop VR and offer a different red too.
