Map light bulb removal

I used a pair of small regular channel lock pliers wrapped some duck tape around both ends of the head (sticky part out). This helped with gripping the bulb then wiggled and pulled a few time and popped em out within a few minutes .

It took almost a full can of beer and trip to confession to get my rearview bulbs out. Make sure u use good beer though. The cheap stuff will not work at all.
Also a not with string. Slight the string to the base of the bulb...then tighten then yank

I just did this. I used a small zip tie tightened around the bulb. To keep it from slipping off I used a small needle nose to hold the tie tight around the base of the bulb and yanked it off. The hot bulb flew out and landed on my cheek...HOT!!! LOL. Worked great on both sides. Bulbs are bright.

Was anyone ever able to answer this question? Bulb number? Style?

Just did my map lights in my convertible. What a pain. Still can't find where the original passenger light bulb disappeared to.
I'll look for it when I can get it out in the daylight.

I notice in my Corvette also that things seem to disappear very quickly. Problem is lack of space with this car. You have to work in cramped quarters as there is not much room in this car. I usually find the items at a later date. The light in the glove box was not difficult as I thought it would be but there was alot more give n play with the map lights.

I experienced the same problem. For anyone that is struggling with removing the map lights in your rear view mirror, go buy a pair of needle nose lock grip type pliers and adjust them so that they grab just tight enough to grip the bulb and gently close them around the bulb. Now pull it out. Good luck. If I can do it, anyone can. Murphy's law shows up when I attempt most projects.

Good point, LS WON. I did not tape them when I performed the removal. However, you can't be too careful. Cool screen name. LS WON. Would be a good license plate.

All good advice. I did mine today and found that a wrap of electrical tape around the bulb then twisted a couple of turns and they came right out.
I would say that the most important thing, no matter which method you use, is patience.

You are correct. PITA. Also Pain in the fingertip. Bulbs yank straight out. I accomplished this using vise grip needle nose pliers. Adjust them so they barely grip the bulb when closed. Good luck.
