Default Strong Odor from floor

Took my coupe out for awhile today ( can't wait for warm weather )
any way, this is the 2nd time happening to me
1st time driving to AC, had the heater on and the smell was noticable
2nd time was today, no heater on, just the smell
So I put the heater on floor and defrost, odor gone.
Turn off, smell again
The odor is similar to an old ( forgive me ) but an old gym bag

Is there a floor filter or something that could be getting musty or so
The car is garage kept ( 09 with 4200 miles )

Is it from the AC vents? If so have the Dealer activate the afterblow option.

There are 2 likely possibilities. The easiest to check first is the cabin air filter. Your car is so new and low mileage, my guess is this isn't your problem but it is easy to check. Here's a link with the info:

The other, and IMO most likely, problem is mold in the A/C evap unit. If you drive with the climate control on Auto all the time then the A/C unit is always wet with condensation. When you park the car with the coils wet, mold grows over time.

One suggestion is to get in the habit of shutting off the A/C (snowflake button) several minutes before you arrive at your destination. That gives the system time to dry out before you shut the car off. It sounds easy, but it isn't easy to "remember" to do it. I've tried it and failed many times.

If you can't remember to shut it off yourself, you can take the car to a dealer and have them activate the system "after blow" feature. The computer will run the climate control fan for several minutes after you shut the car off.

To get rid of your current odor problem you'll probably need to inject some anti microbial into the system. The easiest but not always successful option is Lysol spray. If that doesn't work or you don't want to try it then there are commercially available sprays available that are stronger and work better or you can have the dealer do it for you.

Lysol suggestion:

More discussion and suggestions on cleaning. Post #10 has some good info:

After Blow info:

Good luck.
