Default Engine detailing

The engine bay is clean now, but I still want to go through it with a fine tooth comb. What do you all use to detail the engine bay on your ride?

After a nice cleaning with a mild agent and protecting my important parts, I then dry with the master blaster. It blows all hidden leaves and misc. I then use CD2 Engine Detailer. I was turned onto to this about 7 years ago. Not as greasy as Armor All and does act as a dust repellent. You can use it on plastic, metal, and even the fire and side walls. It is available only online. Do a google.

Anxious to see some other posts to see if there is something I am missing.

I use Autoglym Engine & Machine Cleaner and finish it off with Sonus Trim and Motor Kote.

I give it a quick dusting and blow the rocks out at every washing. Every few months I clean it with wet rags and Armorall most everything. After five years it still looks like new. I do the same with my 12 year old XJ8 and it looks like new also.

There is no short cut. If the engine bay has not been maintained it will take considerable time depending on how detailed you want to get. Don't forget to clean the underside too. When you think it is clean, clean it again. You will be surprised how much road grime you will remove everytime you clean it. Take your time and it will look great. I would post-up over on the Care Care Forum here, that's where the pro detailers hang out. they have great tips.

I was told not to use a water hose as the water kills the nox sensors on bottom of engine.
Wipe down was recommended. If water is to be used pour it only down the sides of motor.

I just use the hose and run the engine dry for 10-15 minutes. Then I top it off with Stoners Trim Shine, looks great.

The key is to keep the engine bay clean as much as possible becuase once it is really dirty it is tough to restore.

Do you also remove the plastic valve covers?
