i have a 2006. so all you need to do to get the steering wheel controls for the radio is replace that stock spring assembly with a newer verion and then pick up a wheel with the controls? wow, if it is as easy as that, sounds like a project to complete before spring. anything else i need to know?

You need to change the harness in the column in order to make the SWC's work. You also need an 07 up nav unit or aftermarket radio and interface. Bluetooth was not down gradeable. I just put the blank cover in place of the blue tooth cover on my conversion. If you are adding SWC's to a factory nav unit you will need the delphi connectors to put into the old radio plug, or a new dash harness. The New harness added 3 more wires, two to the radio, and one light wire for the SWC switch light.

link to post I did when I added SWC's to my 06

You'll need the clockspring for an '07 or newer model. You will also need the steering wheel column wiring harness for '07 or newer. Additionally, I dobut that the paddle shifters could be made to work as the '05 auto transmission is a different model than later years (4-speed versus 6-speed).

Default Adding Paddles to M6 style wheel

Does anyone know if you can add the paddle assemblies from an A6 wheel to an M6 wheel? I assume that there's a different clock spring and wiring harness for the A6 for the extra wiring.

I have an '09 Z06 that I want to add a MasterShift Paddle type shift controller to, but the MS clamp-on RF controls look ridiculous, and block too much of the wheel.

My thought is to use the A6 paddles to control the MS box. There doesn't seem to be any other way to do it - at least not one that makes any sense, anyway.

I can get a standard A6 wheel quite easily, and a 2012 style M6 non-paddle wheel - the trick is combining them...

If I'm going to all this trouble, I'd much rather have the 2012 wheel.

Cencal, thanks for the thread. Install was a breeze in my 06. Took 20 minutes start to finish.

For the 2006 guys that do not want the extra labor imparted with changing the clock spring, I will add:

The connectors are different. They changed this when they added steering wheel controls in 2007 IIRC. The white, thin-post multichannel connector will not fit the black, thick-post 2 lead (brown and black) in your column.

My fix - cheap, easy, and works:

Clip the white connector from 2012 wheel, and black connector from 2006 wheel. Be sure you leave enough wire for splicing and cap off the unused leads, as you only need the black and brown. Splice brown and black leads from old black connector onto 2012 wheel's brown and black leads where you clipped off the white connector. I soldered and heat-shrink-wrapped the wire ends. Discard white connector with old wheel (my wheel was peeling, so I was not going to resell).

Plug 2012 wheel (now with the 2006 black connector) into its mate in the steering column. Perfect fit.

Reassemble per Cencal's instructions. Enjoy the awesome new wheel.

What about adding Bluetooth buttons to an 08 3LT. Got the airbag out and there's no connector for the new button.
Is a 09 clock spring needed too? In my 08 Tahoe all the wires were there so it was a plug and play plus new VCIM.

Hi guys, I'm a little stuck here. Most of the way through, new wheel on.

I've got this white connector on the new wheel, however the new clock spring I purchased only has a skinny black connector. Can I splice them together?

Also where does the even smaller black connector go?

Cheers!
