Default Mobil 1

I purchased some Mobil 1 the other day and noticed the code on the container was no longer GM 4718M. The new code is GM 6094. Does anyone know if this replaces the old code and does this mean that the specs. have changed?

6094 is GM specification for "standard engine oil", not "high performance" oil. I don't know why it would be on M1. Here's GM's list:

What weight (viscosity) and type (high mileage, etc)?

Not all Mobil 1 is 4718M.

That'd be interesting. Regular Mobil 1 still shows up on their web site as 4718m:

There are multiple different Mobil 1 5w30 oil blends available. Not all Mobil 1 5w30 meets the 4718 spec though.

You sure? Did the bottle look exactly like this? Every bottle of GM spec 4718 Mobil 1 5W30 I've every purchased had a plain label just like this:

U.M.

You don't want any of these...

Excellent Uncle Meat!!! You have made it crystal clear that there is more than one kind of Mobil 1.

In warm weather, the 10W-30 should be ok but not so good for cold startups. Also, your warranty (probably expired unless you got a GMPP) requires 5W-30. Of course, they would probably never check.

Enjoy!
