You should post there also.
If you change out the Bose in the doors you will want to put an amp on them. The Bose have their own amp built into the speakers. They sound like crap anyway. Get some good component speakers and get a quality amp to power them. It will sound tons better than the Bose.

im not an expert but I can pass on what I was told and did. The Bose door speakers have built in amps for each speaker. The head unit doesnt power them. The stock head unit wont have enough power for replacement speakers to sound good. Most people remove the Bose and intall 6.5" Component(seperate mid and tweeter) and power them with an aftermarket amp.
Some of us went the steps further and add a Sub to the car also. Check out the audio setion. Theres alot of info there.
Heres a good thing to start reading.

just get a good set of normal door speakers. Forget finding 10" ones, go for 5 1/2" most likely. Get a small sheet of lumber in lowes and make a template to omunt to the normal 10" size, just make sure u get a crossover with the door speakers and if you have a aftermarket nav unit you will be ablt to bypass the factory amp.

Didnt you start a thread a while back asking about mounting 4 13" JL subs in a Vette!?

I went with a very nice set of MB quartz. I dont remember that thread but I may very well have. I went with 2 12" Fi Q series subs in the back and I mean these things hammer! best sound quality I have ever heard along with the loudest system I have ever heard in a car. I dont remember the series of speaker I put in the doors, but I will go get the box if you would like and look for you.

No, I redid my whole system already I was just curious which 5.5" speakers you used because most use 6.5" components up front to replace the Bose. Just trying to give the OP more options.

Is the amp mounted directly to the speakers or is it separately mounted in the door cavity? Why couldn't one use a small, compact mono amp in each door and drive custom speakers that way?

Here are some pictures of the 10" speaker in the doors of c6's with bose. The amplifier is the green circuit board mounted on top of the speaker. It must take a pounding being mounted in that position. A bose rebuilder I found on the internet says these amplifiers will eventually fail in 5 to 7 years depending on how much time at full volume. Anyway, I bought a pair of used 10" speakers out of a wrecked 08 z06 for $100.

I'm waiting for the end of warranty, (1.25 years) and then replacing the whole system.
I've never felt so scammed and ripped off purchasing anything as I do with the Bose system. If you can swing it, get rid of all of it.

If you're going to toss it anyway, mind cracking open the casing and telling/showing what the cone material is made of? Or how big or small the magnet is?
I have a theory that began over 10 years ago. Your cracking one of those open and displaying the cone and magnet would help immensely.

When I took mine out I didnt bust it open but I can tell you the magnet is a real lightweight! I couldnt believe how puny it was. The cone materials are paper. When compared to the JL C5-650's I put in, there was no comparisson. The Bose is junk!

Does anyone know definitively if these speakers just take a "line-level" input from the stereo? I'd be interested to know if it's a standard low-voltage input that can be delivered to any amplifier or if the signal from HU is manipulated to the extent that only a Bose amplifier will use it.
