GM4718M oil list

Like the Bible or GM's rules regarding aftermarket "tunes", ignore GM oil requirement rules at your own risk.
Note directory naming:
"...gm.com/corporate/responsibility/environment/maintenance/gm_approved_engine_oils.pdf"
Expect first kalifornia then federal enviro regs on how often you can legally change your oil. Bet on it.

Using any of the oils on the list in the recommended viscosity will not void your warranty - but seriously, when was the last time you heard about a Corvette having engine failure because the owner used an oil not on the 'list'? I bet there are thousands of Vette owners who probably don't even know there's a list and just fill theirs with whatever is on sale - perhaps not even synthetic - and keep motoring along.
There are a lot of people running Amsoil, Royal Purple, etc. - I have yet to read about the engine blowing on them. Maybe it costs $ to be on the list?

How much money you think Mobile 1 pays GM to have their name on the oil cap?

I love these oil threads. It brings out all the experts. NO. This list is current. As far as warranty thats up to you. I don't care. I simply wanted to supply you with GM's information.
As far as you Patman, Like I've said to you before I wouldn't use Pennzoil on my bicycle chain!
Have a nice day!

I love these threads, for the most part useless, not to the op, thanks for the list, but to all the "my oil is better than yours" etc. Glad I don't get caught up in it. When I do oil changes, I would use any of the recommended brands, maybe because one is on sale or maybe just because, and my engine will last as long as the redline guys, as long as the amsoil guys etc. I will say, however, I am going to try the Redline in my rear diff (for the pain in the *** chatter documented problems), because there seems to be proof it works when other fail. I will be the judge of that. Now ya,all get back to yers bitchin'

Pennzoil?Isn't that the brand of oil that had some type of build up of wax or parafin?
I wouldn't use Pennzoil either.
I would go with Mobil One because it's easy to find and goes on sale or
Amsoil
Redline

Truth be known, I use "Canadian Tire" crap brand 10w-30 in my ultra high horsepower 427 in my Camaro, I change it once a year if it needs it or not, and this year it looks like it might be the most miles I have put on it in 5 years. I am at 22 miles so far this year and I might just double that amount.

C6 of Year Finalist (performance mods) 2019
I'm doing an oil change this weekend, right after I get my lazy butt off the forum for a while.
Using 1 quart of Mobil 1 racing 0W-30 and 4.5 quarts of 0W-30 regular Mobil 1. The phosphorus level of 1750 ppm (anti-wear) mixing with the regular 800 ppm gives me an average of 972 ppm. Far closer to the 1000-1200 levels that existed prior to the "OMG it'll destroy our planet" cries known to the state of Kalifornia.
And now before all the screaming from the anti-mod crowd begins, It's still my car and I'll do what I want.

As someone mentioned, any oil company can claim that their oil meets GM4718M. Only the ones actually mentioned on the GM list, have been officially accepted by GM. That's why GM publishes their list.
In theory, GM might deny warranty coverage if they believed that an engine problem was caused by substandard oil even if the oil maker claims the stuff meets GM4718M.
But in practice, I've never heard of that happening and probably never will.
It seems that in the real world, Corvette engines only last 200,000-300,000 miles on Mobil1. Maybe i should try something different.
